Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Tracy McGrady scored 25 points to lead the Houston Rockets in a 116-95 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies at Toyota Center.
Luis Scola, Luther Head and Carl Landry each tallied 15 points for the Rockets, who won their NBA-best 14th straight game. The franchise-record for consecutive victories is 15, last done when Houston opened the 1993-94 campaign by winning its first 15 contests.
"We are just a focused group right now, and we understand that the West is pretty tough," McGrady said. "Each game from this point on really counts."
Shane Battier scored 13 points and Rafer Alston netted 11 points, while dishing out eight assists.
Javaris Crittenton gathered a career-high 22 points for the Grizzlies, who have dropped seven in a row, 12 of 13 and 14 of their last 16 games. Kyle Lowry added 18 points, while Rudy Gay and Juan Carlos Navarro had 11 apiece.
After Alston drained a three, the Rockets were ahead 23-2 just before the midway point of the opening frame. Houston would then take a 37-17 lead after the first quarter.
Memphis would trail 60-41 at the break.
Five straight Scola points gave the Rockets a 69-46 advantage just prior to the eight-minute mark.
Moments later, a quick 9-0 Houston run put the Rockets on top 78-50. McGrady set the run off with a dunk, Scola hit a pair of layups and Battier closed it out with a three-ball at the 5:34 mark.
Houston's lead ballooned around the 20s for the remainder of the third, and the Rockets would take a 91-70 cushion into the final 12 minutes of play.
A Crittenton three-point play closed the gap to under 20 points, 93-75, for Memphis just over two minutes in. Though the deficit would hover around 20 until consecutive buckets from Navarro and Crittenton closed it to 104-86 with 5:23 left in regulation.
"I needed to bring energy off the bench and once I got into my rhythm, I got going," Crittenton said. "I started attacking the hole and it opened possibilities for my teammates."
The Grizzlies wouldn't pull closer than 18 points, as the Rockets pulled away down the stretch.
