Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Carlos Boozer and Andrei Kirilenko scored 23 points apiece to lead the Utah Jazz past the San Antonio Spurs, 97-91, at EnergySolutions Arena.
Deron Williams had 11 points and 14 assists and Kyle Korver hit some big shots late en route to an eight-point night for Utah, which has won five in a row.
Tim Duncan had 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs, who opened a season- long nine-game road swing. San Antonio has now lost two straight. Manu Ginobili poured in a game-best 29 points in a losing effort.
"You can't really go one on one with him and expect to win, so we tried to crowd him a little bit and we were able to get some deflections and steals," Korver said of Duncan. "He still had 26 points -- it's not like we shut him down, but we did alright."
As was the theme for much of the game, the Spurs made a run late before being turned away. Heading into the fourth down by double-digits, San Antonio pulled within two at 91-89 with 1:30 remaining after a Duncan jumper.
Ime Udoka was called for his second technical of the game on the way back up the floor, though, leading to his ejection and a Korver free throw. Korver connected from the stripe, and drilled a three-pointer on the ensuing possession to push the lead to 95-89 with 48 ticks left.
San Antonio got no closer than four points the rest of the way.
"It's a great day for us; we did a good job playing against a really good team," Boozer said. "We don't want to make too much out of it, it's a step in the right direction and we've got to keep it up so we can maintain where we are and keep climbing the ladder."
The Jazz jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the game and played the role of front-runner for the majority of the contest.
Mehmet Okur did the bulk of the scoring early before Boozer took over, scoring six straight for Utah to up the lead to 20-12. Ronnie Price followed with a three-pointer to push the lead to double-digits. After 12 minutes of play, the Jazz led 27-19.
San Antonio clawed back into the game in the second, and tied it at 33-33 following Udoka's fadeaway with 6:42 left in the half. Utah, however, finished the stanza strong, and used four straight points by Williams to carry a 55-45 advantage into the locker room.
The third quarter followed a similar pattern, with the Spurs moving within striking distance only to see the Jazz answer back. A Ginobili slam with 3:46 on the clock trimmed the deficit to four, but Utah responded with a 10-0 burst, and went into the fourth quarter with a 76-66 lead.
