Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Richard Hamilton scored 32 points and the Pistons used a dominating first quarter to run past the Orlando Magic, 101-93, getting revenge for a loss at the buzzer earlier this week.
Hamilton, who also had eight rebounds and eight assists, shot 14-of-22 from the field. Chauncey Billups added 21 points for Detroit, which beat the Magic for the 10th time in the last 12 meetings.
Rasheed Wallace had 13 of his 15 points during the first quarter, as Detroit won its second in a row after suffering a season-high three consecutive defeats. Antonio McDyess tallied 10 points and 13 rebounds in the triumph.
Hedo Turkoglu had 23 points and Dwight Howard chipped in 22 points and 14 rebounds for Orlando, which had its three-game win streak broken. Carlos Arroyo scored 16 for the Magic, who have lost seven in a row at Detroit.
Rashard Lewis hit a 12-foot bank shot as time expired to give the Magic a 102-100 win on Monday at Orlando, but the Pistons jumped all over their opponent on Friday in this battle of division leaders.
"We were really looking forward to this game after the game we played down there," Billups said. "We slowed down a little offensively. We figured if they wanted to play fast and shoot all those threes, we would punish them on the block."
The Pistons shot 17-of-22 in the opening quarter, on the way to a 39-18 lead. Their advantage reached as high as 27 in the second and never dipped below seven.
"The first quarter is as bad as it gets for us," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said. "We played poorly, but even worse, we didn't compete. It was embarrassing."
Detroit scored 13 of the first 18 points, with McDyess' tip-in capping the burst. The Pistons capped the period with a 14-2 flurry with a three by Billups culminating the spurt.
The Pistons expanded their lead to 53-26 midway through the second on a Hamilton three-pointer and they were in front 68-49 at the half.
Orlando used 13 straight points to get within 85-73 in the final minute of the third, but the Magic still trailed 87-74 going into the fourth. They were only able to get the deficit under double digits with a minute left when Howard's free throw made it 99-90.
