Sacramento, CA (Sports Network) - Ron Artest scored 27 points to lead seven Kings in double figures, as Sacramento pounded the New Jersey Nets, 128-94, at ARCO Arena.
It marked the first time this season that Artest, Mike Bibby and Kevin Martin started together, as injuries have limited the trio. However, on Tuesday Martin had 19 points and Bibby scored 15, all in the opening half, as the Kings posted their season-high third straight victory. It was also Sacramento's fifth victory in the last six meetings with the Nets.
"Mike is playing great," Artest said. "They doubled him all the time coming off screens. He's probably not going to score as much in the beginning until they realize that they need to get someone else. He's going to fill up the stats sheet again."
Brad Miller had 14 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Kings, while Beno Udrih also had 14 points. Francisco Garcia scored 13 points and former Net Mikki Moore tallied 10 points, all part of a stellar night for the Kings, who shot 57.5 percent from the field. Sacramento went 15-of-24 from three-point range.
Vince Carter had 21 points and eight assists for the Nets, losers of nine straight at Sacramento. Richard Jefferson chipped in 18 points for New Jersey, which hasn't won at ARCO Arena since Nov. 30, 1997.
"Pathetic performance. We gave up a season-high in points," Nets coach Lawrence Frank said. "They shoot high 50's from the field and high 60's form three. Just a dismal performance."
It was a fabulous start for the Kings, who scored eight of the opening nine points. Included in that were threes from Bibby and Artest. Sacramento hit five three-pointers in the first quarter and was ahead 36-25 after 12 minutes.
Back-to-back threes by Garcia moved the lead to 48-34 with 7:40 left in the half and Miller's layup extended the margin to 59-41. A three from Bibby punctuated the half for a 64-47 difference.
The Nets never seriously challenged in the third quarter, and two Martin foul shots carried the cushion to 92-71 with 1:49 left in the period.
It was 97-73 going into the fourth and the lead first broke 30 on a three- point play from Artest for a 114-83 margin at the midway point. That capped an 11-0 run.
