Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Caron Butler scored a team-high 25 points and added nine rebounds as the Washington Wizards breezed past the Dallas Mavericks, 102-84, at Verizon Center.
Butler finished 10-of-20 shooting, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, while Antawn Jamison chipped in with 23 points and eight boards for Washington, which has won two straight and five of their last six contests.
DeShawn Stevenson contributed 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond-the-arc and Antonio Daniels donated 13 points and six assists in the victory.
Josh Howard dropped a game-high 32 points and had seven rebounds for the Mavericks, who have lost two of their last three after winning the previous seven games.
Dirk Nowitzki had a solid game for Dallas, chipping in with 21 points 11 rebounds and six assists. Devin Harris had 14 points in defeat.
"We tried to hanging on down the stretch," Nowitzki said. "We took shots and made some shots and tried to get the fast break going but we could never make a run. They made some incredible shots."
The Wizards held a 46-41 edge at intermission and maintained a 57-54 advantage midway through the third stanza, then opened things up on offense. Washington, led by Jamison and Butler, finished the quarter with a 16-4 run and took a 73-60 lead into the final period.
Dallas made it a 79-70 game with 7:23 left in the contest after Howard's driving layup, but Washington scored the next five points and maintained a comfortable double-digit lead the rest of the way, en route to the 102-84 final score.
"It's a big win," Butler said. "We are feeling really good. We did a great job rebounding and keeping our turnovers to a minimum today."
In a closely contested opening quarter, Washington held a 15-10 lead in the early going following a layup by Stevenson and, after Daniels' running jumper late in the period, held a 23-21 advantage at the end of the frame.
Washington continued to play the frontrunner in the second, but Dallas tied things up at 29 following a Jerry Stackhouse dunk with a little under eight minutes left in the half. The Wizards then ran off five in a row and went into the break with a 46-41 lead.
