NBA Game Summary - Sacramento at Detroit

Final Score: Sacramento 100 - Detroit 93

Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Kevin Martin came off the bench to score a team-high 24 points as the Sacramento Kings held off the Detroit Pistons, 100-93, at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Ron Artest had 18 points in his second game since returning from an elbow injury, while Brad Miller scored 17, grabbed nine rebounds and provided a critical assist in the final minute as the Kings stopped a three-game skid on the road.

Chauncey Billups scored 28 points, dished out 10 assists and pulled down eight rebounds for Detroit, which lost for the second time in the last three games. Richard Hamilton had 24 points, while Antonio McDyess added 14 to go with his game-high 11 boards.

Hamilton got into the lane and found a cutting Tayshaun Prince along the baseline for a dunk that trimmed Sacramento's lead to 94-91 with just over two minutes remaining. But Miller drew a foul on McDyess at the other end, then hit a pair at the line to push the lead back to five.

Billups answered with two free throws, and after a turnover by Artest, the Pistons had a chance to cut the lead to one or tie. Prince missed a jumper, but Jason Maxiell corralled the rebound, then found Billups outside the arc. Billups misfired on a three, and Prince grabbed another offensive board. The ball found its way back inside to Maxiell, but he turned it over with under a minute remaining, forcing Detroit into a must-stop situation.

Miller rebounded Francisco Garcia's miss on the ensuing Kings possession, and Sacramento called a timeout with a fresh shot clock and 36.9 ticks remaining in the game. Out of the break, Miller found Mike Bibby on a backdoor cut for an easy bucket that made it 98-93 with just 17 seconds left.

When Rasheed Wallace's three was long at the other end, Detroit was done.

Bibby, also in a reserve role as he works his way back from surgically repaired left thumb, finished with 16 points in his second outing of the season. Beno Udrih also chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.

"It felt good to be out there," Bibby said. "I am still trying to catch my breath out there, but it felt good to be out there."

"It was a must-win game and we are finally getting in a rhythm as a team," Artest said. "It is about time to start finding our identity and string together some wins."

Prince had 15 points for the Pistons, while Wallace ended his night with seven points and seven rebounds. Maxiell finished with five points and seven boards.

"We waited too long to start fighting during that third quarter," Billups said. "Offensively we were good, but defensively we were giving up a lot. Our defense kept us in it, but on defense we were just too late."

Detroit opened up an early 11-point advantage, and led 29-23 after one quarter. Sacramento used a 9-0 run midway through the second to take a 37-31 lead, then stretched its cushion to as many as 13 before taking a 56-48 edge into the half.

The Pistons closed the third on an 18-8 spurt, giving them a 77-76 lead going into the fourth. The lead changed hands throughout the final stanza, with the Kings finally gaining some breathing room when Artest nailed a three and Miller hit a pair of free throws to make it 93-87 with just over three minutes to go.
