NBA Game Summary - Toronto at Detroit

Final Score: Toronto 89 - Detroit 103

Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Richard Hamilton scored a season-high 39 points as the Detroit Pistons beat the Toronto Raptors, 103-89, at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Hamilton connected on 16-of-22 shots for the Pistons, who bounced back from an 89-65 loss at the hands of the lowly New York Knicks on Sunday.

"I had a lot of wide-open looks but I didn't really take a lot of shots in New York," said Hamilton. "The ones that I missed I usually make. Tonight I just said, 'They're going to fall.' New York played great, we were down early, didn't play a whole lot of minutes. Tonight I said, just be aggressive, try to get to the basket, try to make plays for the guys."

Chauncey Billups added 20 points and Antonio McDyess had nine points, 13 rebounds and a career-high seven steals for Detroit, which has won three of four overall.

Chris Bosh had 16 points and 11 boards, while Jason Kapono and Carlos Delfino added 14 points apiece off the bench for the Raptors, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

After an evenly played first quarter that saw Detroit holding a 20-18 lead, the Pistons pulled away in the second. A Rodney Stuckey three-point play with 6:16 left in the frame put the home club ahead 40-27.

Toronto, though, responded and Delfino, who scored all 14 of his points in the first half, hit a layup at the buzzer to pull the Raptors within 51-50 at the intermission.

Detroit turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter, forcing the Raptors to miss 10 of their first 12 shots. The Pistons, by that point, were on their way to a commanding 75-57 advantage with 3:49 left in the stanza.

"They weren't really playing great defense in the first half, but they made some adjustments (in the third quarter) and it worked," said Bosh.

The Raptors were able to close the third quarter on an 8-2 run, but still trailed 77-65 heading into the final frame.

Detroit made a statement early in the fourth as Ben Wallace emphatically dunked over Rasho Nesterovic, while drawing a foul. The three-point play put the Pistons up 80-67 with 11:28 remaining in the game.

Toronto never seriously threatened thereafter.
