Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - LeBron James scored a season-high 51 points, dished out nine assists and grabbed eight rebounds, and it was still just barely enough, as the Cleveland Cavaliers needed overtime to outlast the Memphis Grizzlies, 132-124, at FedEx Forum.
James went 18-for-28 from the floor, hitting six threes, and made nine of his 16 free-throw attempts to lead the Cavs to their sixth win in the last seven outings. Daniel Gibson added 18 points off the bench, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas went for 14 points and eight rebounds.
Rudy Gay led Memphis with 30 points, though he was held scoreless in the overtime period and ultimately fouled out. Juan Carlos Navarro scored 26, including the game-tying three-pointer at the end of regulation.
After Ilgauskas tied the game with a putback dunk, Mike Conley used a crossover to penetrate and then found Pau Gasol for an elbow jumper, giving the Grizzlies a 110-108 advantage with 1:15 to go.
Gasol blocked Ilgauskas' shot on the ensuing possession with just a second remaining on the shot clock, but James provided a devastating blow when he came free on the following inbounds pass for a lob from Damon Jones, tying the game with 50 seconds remaining.
James then hit a pair from the line to put the Cavs up two with 25.5 ticks to go, and when Mike Miller missed on a clean look at a three and Jones came up with the rebound, Memphis appeared done.
But Jones made just one-of-two, and following a timeout, Gasol handed to Navarro coming off a screen, and Navarro drained a three from the left wing.
James' fadeaway was off the mark as time expired, but he answered Conley's three in overtime, then hit a jumper with 2:10 to go in the extra session to put the Cavs up 121-117. Conley drove at Ilgauskas - who had five fouls - and scored to trim the lead to two with 1:45 to go, but James answered by finding Anderson Varejao with a beautiful look underneath. Vareajao finished, drew a foul on Gay, and after he hit the free throw, Cleveland had a 124-119 lead with 1:31 to go.
Conley then committed a turnover, and Gibson hit two from the line to stretch the lead to seven and begin a parade to the stripe that sealed the win for Cleveland.
Varejao finished with 11 points and seven boards, while Drew Gooden went for 12 and 11 and Jones ended with nine points.
The rookie Conley finished with a career-high 20 points to go with seven assists, and Gasol had 19 and 12 rebounds.
Cleveland had an early 14-7 lead, but Memphis fought back to go to the second tied, 31-31. The Grizzlies got seven unanswered to start the second quarter, but the Cavs closed the half with an 8-3 burst and led 56-53 at the break.
Cleveland had its largest lead, at 75-65, with 6:35 to go in the third, but Memphis again closed the period strong and trailed just 85-81 going to the fourth.
A pair of Gibson threes pushed the Cavs lead back to 91-81 early in the fourth before a 13-4 Memphis run made it a one-point game.
