Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Joe Johnson had 37 points, nine rebounds and six assists as the Atlanta Hawks beat the Chicago Bulls 105-84 at Philips Arena.
Josh Childress added 14 points and nine boards for the Hawks, who snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Bulls.
Atlanta hadn't beaten the Bulls since a 116-101 win in Chicago on April 9, 2004.
"We had never beaten them since I've been here as a coach," said Atlanta coach Mike Woodson. "You have to tip your hat to the Bulls and their staff, because they've done a great job every time we've played them. But I thought it was just our night tonight. We did everything from rebounding and defending the ball, we got out and ran, and we made shots tonight. And we made free throws tonight, and that was huge."
Marvin Williams donated 11 points and Al Horford grabbed nine rebounds for Atlanta, which won for the just the second time in seven games.
Luol Deng scored 28 points in his return to the lineup after missing three games with a sore Achilles tendon for the Bulls, who have lost two of three.
"To begin the game I was a little tight," said Deng. "When I first came in I was a little tight, but as the game went on it felt a little better. I wasn't able to get the lift that I wanted in some of the plays."
Andres Nocioni had 20 points, Joe Smith 12 and Kirk Hinrich 11 for Chicago, which was without Joakim Noah.
Noah, a rookie from Florida, was involved in a confrontation with assistant coach Ron Adams Friday. He was benched for that night's game in Philadelphia and his fellow teammates voted unanimously to sit Noah again.
Johnson scored Atlanta's first 10 points. His three-pointer with 9:43 left in the first quarter sparked a 23-3 run, giving the Hawks a 25-9 lead with 5:11 left in the frame. The Hawks led 38-22 after the opening 12 minutes behind 19 points from Johnson.
The Hawks led by as many as 22 in the second quarter and took a 69-49 lead into the half.
Atlanta managed just 11 third quarter points but still held an 80-66 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Two Nocioni free throws cut the Bulls deficit to 93-80 with 4:24 remaining but the Hawks responded with eight unanswered points to seal the win.
