NBA Game Summary - Portland at Chicago

Final Score: Portland 115 - Chicago 109

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Brandon Roy scored 25 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed six rebounds, as the Portland Trail Blazers needed two overtimes to defeat the Chicago Bulls, 115-109.

Travis Outlaw had 21 points off the bench, and Jarrett Jack dropped 17 points for red-hot Portland, which has won 15 of its last 16 games overall. The Blazers will host Utah on January 5.

Ben Gordon had 32 points off Chicago's bench, as the Bulls lost for the second time in their last three contests.

Chicago's Joe Smith scored 31 points and grabbed 11 boards. Kirk Hinrich and Ben Wallace both scored 12, with Wallace adding 14 rebounds and Hinrich chipping in nine assists and seven rebounds for the Bulls.

The Trail Blazers outscored the Bulls 11-6 to open the fourth and found themselves leading 80-76 with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation. Gordon scored the next three Chicago buckets and brought his team within 82-80 with just under six minutes left.

The teams exchanged baskets for the next five minutes before Gordon hit a jumper with 1:05 to play that tied the score, 88-88.

Both teams were unable to capitalize on their next possession and Portland was left with the game's final shot. Roy missed a jumper off the back of the rim and the teams headed for overtime.

During the first overtime, both teams led by as many as four points. It seemed as though Portland would leave Chicago with a victory as Outlaw hit a jump shot to put his team up 102-100 with 18 seconds left.

However, after a LaMarcus Aldridge foul, two Smith free throws tied the game with 10 seconds left. The clubs headed for a second overtime as Jack missed a three-pointer as time expired.

The teams were scoreless for almost the first two minutes of the second half, but Jack hit a layup with 3:07 left to give the Blazers a 104-102 edge.

Two minutes later, four straight Bulls points put the team ahead, 108-106.

After two Roy free throws tied the game for Portland with 1:08 left, a Jones steal and a Jack layup with a foul put the Blazers ahead 111-108 with 19.3 left. Moments later, Smith hit one-of-two free throws after being fouled by Outlaw.

On the ensuing Portland possession, Jones was fouled and hit both shots to make it a two possession game with 12 seconds left. Nocioni then missed a three-pointer and the Bulls were forced to foul again. Jones hit both from the stripe for the final margin.

Hinrich drained a three-pointer with just over a minute left in the first quarter to give the Bulls a 22-21 after the opening 12 minutes. Chicago then began the second stanza on an 11-2 run behind six points from Nocioni and eventually took a 48-41 lead into halftime.

Despite trailing by as many as 14 points in the third quarter, Portland went on a 9-2 run and pulled within 59-52 on an Outlaw jumper with 5:53 left in the third.

Later in the third, Blake's three-pointer tied the game at 69 with under 30 seconds to go, and a Duhan free throw in the final seconds put the Bulls ahead by one heading into the final frame.
