NBA Game Summary - Detroit at Washington

Final Score: Detroit 106 - Washington 93

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Richard Hamilton led a balanced Pistons attack with 20 points, seven rebounds and nine assists and Detroit won its 10th straight by cruising past the Washington Wizards, 106-93, at the Verizon Center.

Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups had 16 points apiece and the Pistons shot 48.7 percent from the floor to earn their first January win following an impressive month of December, during which they went 15-2 and head coach Flip Saunders was named the league's Coach of the Month.

Jason Maxiell went for 15 points and seven rebounds and Jarvis Hayes added 12 to lead a bench that outscored Washington's reserves 33-8.

"We don't need 35 point scorers and everybody (else) scoring eight, 10, 12," said Billups. "We have a balanced attack. Whoever gets hot, we keep rolling and riding, whether that's Rip (Hamilton), Tayshaun, 'Sheed (Wallace). Whoever gets rolling, we keep riding."

Caron Butler paced Washington with a game-high 22 points while also grabbing seven boards and handing out six assists.

Antawn Jamison finished with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Brendan Haywood hit his first five field goals en route to a 15-point, 10-rebound night for the Wizards, who have lost four of their last six.

Washington point guard Antonio Daniels returned from an eight-game absence due to a sprained right knee, and scored 18 points in 35 minutes.

"They make you pay for your mistakes," Daniels said of the Pistons. "They make you pay if you don't do things the right way all the time."

Detroit jumped out to an early five-point edge before the Wizards clawed back to take a 27-26 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Pistons then ripped off 10 straight to open the second, and led 57-47 at the half.

A 13-4 Pistons run midway through the third gave them a 76-57 cushion with five minutes to go in the period, but Washington closed to within 84-72 going to the fourth.

But Detroit never let the Wizards get within real striking distance, as Hayes' three from the wing with 9:19 to go capped a 10-0 early fourth-quarter burst and made it a 94-74 game.

From there Washington never pulled closer than within 13 as the Pistons continued their hot shooting.
