(Sports Network) - A pair of playoff-ready teams square off this afternoon in the Motor City, as the Detroit Pistons host the New Orleans Hornets at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Detroit is 2-1 so far on a five-game homestand and will also host the Denver Nuggets in Motown. The Pistons improved to 25-6 at home this season following Friday's 84-80 victory over the defending-champion San Antonio Spurs.
Richard Hamilton scored 25 points, including his team's final seven of the contest, to lead the Pistons to their fifth win in seven games. Tayshaun Prince chipped in 17 points, while Antonio McDyess ripped down 17 rebounds for Detroit, winners in eight of its last 11 games. Rasheed Wallace contributed 10 points and made three blocks in a winning cause.
The Central Division-leading Pistons, who are seeded second in the East, have won four of five and 11 of its last 13 home games.
Meanwhile, New Orleans sits third in the Western Conference standings and will pay a visit to Motown on Sunday.
The Hornets have won two straight, five of six and seven of their last nine games, including Friday's 108-98 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in the finale of a two-game homestand at New Orleans Arena. Chris Paul had 27 points, 17 assists and four steals, as the Hornets remain a half-game behind Houston for the top spot in the Southwest Division.
New Orleans is 1-3 in its last four games as the visitor. In injury news for the Hornets, Paul (ankle) is probable for Sunday's game, while forward David West (ankle) is questionable against Detroit.
Detroit and New Orleans are meeting for the second and final time in the regular season. The Pistons posted a 91-76 win on December 5 at New Orleans Arena, as Hamilton scored 21 points to lead a balanced attack.
Detroit has won two straight, six of seven and seven of the last 10 meetings with the Hornets, who snapped a three-game series road losing streak with a 100-99 triumph at The Palace on November 15, 2006.
