(Sports Network) - The red-hot Houston Rockets try to extend their winning streak to an unbelievable 19 games when they welcome the New Jersey Nets tonight to the Toyota Center.
Tracy McGrady finished with 41 points and nine assists as the Rockets lengthened their remarkable run with a 106-96 win over the New Orleans Hornets Saturday at the Toyota Center.
Rafer Alston added 20 points for the Rockets, whose winning streak was already the longest in franchise history and the longest this season. Houston has tied three other teams for the fourth-longest winning streak in NBA history, matching New York (1969-70), Boston (1981-82), and Chicago (1995-96).
The Rockets can become the first team since the 1999-2000 Los Angeles Lakers to win 19 straight contests. That Lakers squad won 19 in a row from February 4-March 13, 2000.
Houston, which wraps up a two-game homestand, is 23-9 at home this season. The Rockets, who have won 12 in a row at home, will visit the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.
The Rockets have won nine in a row by double figures -- one shy of tying an NBA record set by the 2003-04 New Jersey Nets.
On the injury front for Houston, forward Carl Landry (bruised/swollen left knee) is questionable to play this evening. Landry is averaging 8.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in 28 games this season.
Houston is just one game behind first-place San Antonio in the Southwest Division standings. New Orleans is tied with the Rockets for second place.
New Jersey wraps up a five game road trip and will try and put the brakes on a five-game losing streak. On Saturday, Dirk Nowitzki poured in 34 points to become the leading scorer in Dallas history and also pulled down nine rebounds as the Mavericks dominated the Nets, 111-91, in the first meeting between these teams since the Jason Kidd trade.
Richard Jefferson ended with 22 points and Marcus Williams registered 15 points for New Jersey, which has dropped eight of its last 11 games overall.
The Nets are 11-20 on the road this season. They will host LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday at the Izod Center.
This is the second and final meeting of the campaign between the squads. On December 7, McGrady scored 24 points and handed out six assists to help the Rockets to a 96-89 victory over the Nets at the Izod Center.
The Rockets have won three in a row and six of seven in the series. New Jersey has lost two of three and three of its last five at Houston.
