(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers have been one of the NBA's hottest teams over the last month, while the Boston Celtics have been the league's most successful club for the majority of this season. The two Atlantic Division rivals will square off tonight in an intriguing matchup from the Wachovia Center.
The Celtics' 49-12 overall record is tops in the league and they carry an eight-game winning streak into the City of Brotherly Love. After completing a perfect five-game homestand with Friday's 116-93 victory over Chicago, Boston hit the road on Saturday and posted an easy 119-89 decision over the lowly Memphis Grizzlies.
Ray Allen scored 23 points to lead five Celtics in double figures, while Kevin Garnett became the 32nd player in NBA history to amass 20,000 career points when the All-Star forward netted 17 in the win.
With a victory tonight, Boston can reach the 50-win plateau in a season for the first time since 1991-92.
Philadelphia is also on quite a roll, having won four straight games and compiling an impressive 12-3 record since February 5. The Sixers have also won eight consecutive contests at the Wachovia Center over that stretch, the club's longest home streak since it ripped off 10 in a row to begin the 2002-03 season.
The 76ers own a 17-14 mark at home for the year.
Philadelphia's latest triumph came on the road, as the team went into Milwaukee on Sunday and came away with a 119-97 victory. Rookie Thaddeus Young poured in 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting to pace a balanced scoring attack for the Sixers.
Samuel Dalembert added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Philadelphia, while Andre Miller delivered 16 points and nine assists and Andre Iguodala scored 15 points.
The Sixers have yet to defeat the mighty Celtics this season, as Boston topped Philadelphia by a 113-103 count at the Wachovia Center in December and recorded a 116-89 win in Beantown on January 18. The Celtics have emerged victorious in three of their last four stops in Philly.
