(Sports Network) - The Charlotte Bobcats have an opportunity to establish a franchise record for consecutive victories tonight. But in order to accomplish that feat, the young club must get past a Washington Wizards squad that's given the Bobcats plenty of trouble throughout their brief history.
The Bobcats have reeled off four straight wins heading into this evening's encounter with the Wizards at the MCI Center and are fresh off Friday's 108-93 home triumph over Atlanta. Raymond Felton paced Charlotte with 23 points and 11 assists, while Matt Carroll made 5-of-6 three-point attempts and finished with a season-best 21 points.
Emeka Okafor also had a double-double for the Bobcats, recording 16 points and 15 rebounds in the win.
This marks the third time in Charlotte's four seasons of existence that the team has won four straight games.
The Bobcats' run could soon come to a close, however, considering that they're 5-22 on the road this season and begin a stretch of six consecutive away games tonight. Charlotte has also historically struggled when visiting the MCI Center, having emerged victorious just once in seven all-time appearances there.
Moreover, Washington has won all three prior meetings between these Southeast Division foes in 2007-08, including a 110-95 triumph in Washington on February 23, and boasts a 12-3 lifetime record over Charlotte since the Bobcats entered the league in 2004.
The Wizards have won three of their last four tests and return home off last night's hard-fought overtime decision over Toronto at the Air Canada Centre. Antawn Jamison finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds to lead Washington to a 110-106 victory.
Roger Mason contributed 18 points off the bench to help the Wizards remain 1 1/2 games in front of hard-charging Philadelphia in the battle for the Eastern Conference's sixth playoff seed.
Washington will start up a five-game homestand tonight and owns a 17-13 mark at the MCI Center for the year. The Wizards have lost five of their last seven as the host, however.
