(Sports Network) - The hapless Miami Heat will open a two-game homestand tonight versus the New Jersey Nets at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Miami will also host Toronto and is just 5-17 as the host this season. The Heat have lost two in a row and 17 of their last 18 games, including Wednesday's 107-91 setback to the Orlando Magic at Amway Arena.
Ricky Davis paced the Heat with 21 points, while Luke Jackson and Chris Quinn each netted 14 points in defeat. Miami played without Dwyane Wade, Udonis Haslem and Shaquille O'Neal due to injuries. Wade (flu) is questionable for Friday, Haslem (ankle) is doubtful and O'Neal (hip) will miss some more time.
Meanwhile, the Nets will shoot for back-to-back wins tonight in the opener of a two-game road in South Beach. The Nets will also visit the Atlanta Hawks and are 9-12 away from the Izod Center this season.
New Jersey put the brakes on a season-high nine-game slide with an 87-80 home victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. Richard Jefferson scored 20 points and Vince Carter added 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Jason Kidd, who had been part of a firestorm into Tuesday afternoon with a reported demand to be traded, scored just nine points and made just one field goal for New Jersey.
Friday's game between the Nets and Heat is the third and final meeting of the regular season. The 2007-08 season series is tied at a game apiece, while Miami has won 10 of the last 15 meetings.
New Jersey has lost six of its last nine trips to South Beach.
