(Sports Network) - Not even the return of Shaquille O'Neal could help the struggling Miami Heat, who will try to stop an 11-game losing streak tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers at AmericanAirlines Arena.
O'Neal returned to the lineup in Wednesday's 126-96 setback to the Chicago Bulls in the opener of a season-high seven-game homestand. O'Neal, who missed the previous eight games due to left hip bursitis, finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter.
Dwyane Wade also scored 24 points for the Heat, who fell to 8-29 on the season, the worst record in the Eastern Conference. Their last victory was December 22 at home against the Utah Jazz. The last time Miami dropped 12 in a row was from November 8 - December 4 of the 2001-02 campaign.
Miami is 4-12 at home this season and will also host New York, Cleveland, San Antonio, Indiana and Boston. The Heat have lost three straight at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Portland will resume a season-long seven-game road trip tonight and is 6-12 away from the Rose Garden in 2007-08. The Blazers are 1-2 so far on the trek and suffered a 100-90 loss at the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, as Brandon Roy had 22 points and six assists to lead the team.
Travis Outlaw and Jarrett Jack each scored 17 points off the bench, while LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 16 points before fouling out. The Blazers will also visit Orlando, Atlanta and New Orleans on the current trip.
The Blazers defeated Miami, 112-106, on December 6 this season to stop a five- game slide in the series.
Portland has lost two straight after winning its last four in South Beach.
