(Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics are mired in their first slump of the season and will try to right the ship tonight, when they open a three-game homestand versus the Washington Wizards at TD Banknorth Garden.
Monday's game is also the back end of a home-and-home set between the Celtics and Wizards, who posted an 85-78 win on Saturday at the Verizon Center. Boston, which has lost two of its last three games, will also host Portland and Philadelphia, and is 16-2 in Beantown this season.
In the loss to the Wizards, Kevin Garnett had 19 points and Paul Pierce netted 15 for the Celtics, who went 4-of-16 from the field in the last quarter and committed 21 turnovers. Ray Allen had eight points, as Boston's 10-game winning streak on the road came to an end.
On the injury front for the Celtics, guard Rajon Rondo is doubtful for Monday's game with a sore lower back.
Washington has won two straight and four of its last five games. It will begin a brief two-game road trip tonight against Boston and New York, and owns an 8-8 mark as the visitor this season.
In Saturday's win over Boston, DeShawn Stevenson scored nine of his team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to send the Celtics to their fifth loss of the season (30-5).
Caron Butler tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Wizards, while Antawn Jamison ended with 10 points and 16 boards in the victory -- Washington's fifth in the last six meetings with the Celtics.
The Wizards have also won seven of the last nine matchups with Boston. They have won three of the last four trips to Beantown.
