National League Game Summary - Arizona at Colorado

Final Score: Arizona 13 - Colorado 4

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Chris Young had three hits, including a homer and three-run triple to drive in four runs, leading the playoff-hopeful Arizona Diamondbacks to a 13-4 thrashing of the Colorado Rockies.

Adam Dunn had three RBI, while Josh Whitesell clubbed his first major league homer for the Diamondbacks, who have won six of their last seven games. Arizona pulled within 2 1/2 games of Los Angeles for first place in the NL West. The Dodgers lost, 1-0 in 11 innings at home to the San Francisco Giants Sunday.

Dan Haren (16-8) allowed seven hits and three runs over six innings for Arizona, which moved to 12-3 against Colorado this season. The Diamondbacks will play in St. Louis for the ensuing four games before finishing the regular season by hosting the Rockies next weekend.

"You can't win seven games in one day, you got to win each day," said Haren. "We need a little help, but we're going to play hard, I know that."

Greg Reynolds (2-8) gave up seven hits and six runs over 1 1/3 innings in the start for Colorado, which dropped the final two contests of the three-game set.

"It was more of the same, just like last outing," said Reynolds. "I got away from the game plan, crept up in the zone, and got hurt."

Garrett Atkins blasted a three-run homer for the Rockies, who finished with a 43-38 record at home.

It was 5-0 before the Rockies even came to bat. It was a rough start for Reynolds, as Stephen Drew doubled and Young then singled. Drew scored on a fielding error by center fielder Seth Smith. Conor Jackson singled and Dunn roped a two-run double. Later in the inning, Mark Reynolds lofted a sacrifice fly and Haren singled in Chris Snyder.

Young led off the second with a homer to left, and it became 7-0 in the fourth on Dunn's RBI single.

Atkins homered for the 20th time this year in the fourth inning, but Arizona got four more in the fifth. Augie Ojeda singled to start the frame, and Haren reached base on an error from shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Drew walked before Young cleared the bases with a triple to left field. Jackson followed with an RBI single for the 11-3 cushion.

Chad Tracy singled in Young in the seventh, before the Rockies scored on an error in the bottom half.

Whitesell, in a pinch-hitting role, homered to right in the ninth.
