Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Mark Teahen hit a pair of solo homers and Ryan Shealy added a solo blast, as the Kansas City Royals staved off a late rally to double up the Cleveland Indians, 8-4, in the second game of a doubleheader.
Miguel Olivo went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for the Royals, who have won three of four. Robinson Tejeda (2-2) took the win after giving up just one run on two hits over five frames. Joakim Soria recorded the final out to earn his 37th save.
Ryan Garko had a two-run homer for the Indians, who have dropped three of four. Kelly Shoppach also drove in a run in defeat. Bryan Bullington (0-1) took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.
In the earlier game on Saturday, Ross Gload and Alberto Callaspo each collected a pair of hits and two RBI as Kansas City downed Cleveland, 8-3.
Down by six with one gone in the home ninth, Garko belted a two-run homer to right off Devon Lowery, which also scored Franklin Gutierrez, to pull the Tribe within four runs. Jamey Carroll went down swinging, but consecutive singles from Asdrubal Cabrera and Grady Sizemore put runners on the corners and brought Soria in from the 'pen.
Sizemore took second on defensive indifference and pinch-hitter Shin-Soo Choo drew a walk. Travis Hafner played the role of rally-killer as he grounded out to end the game.
KC broke the scoreless game in the second behind Shealy's solo homer. However, Shoppach walked, moved to second on David Dellucci's single, landed at third on Garko's walk and tied the game on a wild pitch.
Teahen launched a solo blast in the fourth and Shealy followed with a single. Callaspo kept it going with an RBI triple, and it was 3-1 in favor of the Royals.
David DeJesus led off the fifth with a single, Mike Aviles was plunked, and both runners moved up a base on Jose Guillen's ground out. Olivo then slapped a two-run single to right, but was out trying to turn it into a double. Teahen then made it 6-1 with a solo bomb over the fence in right field.
Shoppach's double in the sixth off Ron Mahay scored Jhonny Peralta to make it a 6-2 affair.
RBI singles from Olivo and Shealy off Masahide Kobayashi in the ninth gave KC a royal 8-2 advantage.
