National League Game Summary - Washington at New York

Final Score: Washington 10 - NY Mets 13

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - David Wright had four hits and three runs batted in as the New York Mets outslugged the Washington Nationals 13-10, in the finale of an abbreviated two-game series from Shea Stadium.

Wright was 4-for-4 with a two-run homer and four runs scored while Carlos Beltran and Fernando Tatis each had three hits with a pair of RBI and as many runs scored for New York. Joe Smith (5-3) logged 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win.

The Mets have won three in a row and seven of nine to move 3 1/2 games up in the NL East on Philadelphia, which fell to Florida 7-3 earlier Wednesday.

"We're 3 1/2 up, I believe they (Philadelphia) feel the pressure, but there's still a lot of season left, so anything can happen. We have to keep ourselves focused and approach every single team like it's a contending team," Beltran said.

Cristian Guzman drove in five runs with two home runs, a three-run and two-run shot, while Elijah Dukes homered, doubled and scored twice for Washington, which has dropped four of six. Kory Casto chipped in with two RBI.

Mets starter Mike Pelfrey went five innings, allowing five runs and eight hits with a pair of walks while Nats starter Odalis Perez lasted just three frames in giving up seven runs -- six earned -- on eight hits and three walks.

"I think he (Dukes) had a very good game, he hit a home run and a double, everybody knows he's worked very hard this year and the Nationals have worked very hard to work with his temper," Nats manager Manny Acta said of Dukes, who also got into a shouting match with Pelfrey after he was hit by a pitch in the fifth. "He's been great the whole season. It's unfortunate what happened tonight, but he's human."

Saul Rivera (5-6) handed the lead back to New York in the seventh in a back and forth affair. Consecutive singles from Wright and Beltran set up a sac fly from Carlos Delgado. A Tatis single moved Beltran to second and both runners advanced on an errant pickoff attempt. Rivera gave pinch-hitter Daniel Murphy a free pass to load the bases, then uncorked a wild pitch that scored Beltran. Brian Schneider followed by lacing a two-run single to left for an 11-7 game.

Brian Stokes took the hill in the eighth and put two men on before Guzman brought Washington back to within one with a three-run shot to right. Wright slammed a two-run shot off Joel Hanrahan in the home half to push the lead to 13-10. Luis Ayala set down the Nats in order in the ninth to record the first scoreless at-bat since the top of the seventh and notch his seventh save on the year.

New York took a 1-0 lead in the first when Wright doubled to left with two down and scored on a Beltran RBI single but Washington tied things up with a home run to left from Dukes the next inning.

The Mets then took a commanding 7-1 lead in the third. Jose Reyes got things started with a single to center with one away, stole second, then third, before coming home on a Wright RBI single. Beltran then doubled in a run and two batters later Tatis plated two more with a double to left. Damion Easley followed with a two-run single before Perez got the final two outs.

The Nationals began to chip away at the lead with four runs over the next two innings. Dukes doubled to lead off the fourth and scored when Wil Nieves singled through the left side. Ryan Zimmerman plated a run with a groundout in the fifth and Casto hit a two-out, two-run single with the bases full to make it a 7-5 game.

Washington completed the comeback in the sixth with a two-out, two-run homer off Aaron Heilman by Guzman.
