American League Game Summary - Texas at Seattle

Final Score: Texas 7 - Seattle 8

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Raul Ibanez finished 4-for-5 and drove in three runs as Seattle edged Texas, 8-7, in the finale of a brief two-game set at Safeco Field.

With the loss and an LA Angels win over the New York Yankees earlier in the day, the Rangers were officially eliminated from the AL West race.

Ichiro Suzuki also went 4-of-5 and scored three runs for the Mariners, who have won two of their last three games. Kenji Johjima added a two-run single.

Cesar Jimenez got a spot start on the hill and threw three shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Roy Corcoran (5-0) got the win after hurling 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Nelson Cruz, Taylor Teagarden, Hank Blalock and Chris Davis all homered for the Rangers, who have dropped two of three.

Kevin Millwood (9-9) surrendered seven runs -- five earned -- on 11 hits in five-plus innings en route to the loss.

With the game even at 6-6, Seattle regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Suzuki and Yuniesky Betancourt started things with consecutive singles. Rangers manager Ron Washington finally had enough of Millwood at that point and went to Kameron Loe. But, Ibanez greeted the reliever with an RBI single and the M's were back on top 7-6.

The Mariners added a key insurance run in the seventh. Suzuki got on with a two-out infield single, advanced to second on Betancourt's single and came around to score when Ibanez singled up the middle.

Davis made it a one run game again by blasting his 15th homer of the year over the wall in right during the eighth inning.

But, J.J. Putz came on to hurl a perfect ninth and earn his 13th save for Seattle.

The Mariners jumped on top with a run in the first. The speedy Suzuki led off with an infield single, swiped second and advanced to third when Teagarden's throw got away at second before crossing the plate on Betancourt's ground ball to short.

Seattle added two more runs in the second. Jeremy Reed started things with a double to left and Millwood then loaded the bases by issuing a walk to Wladimir Balentien and plunking Matt Tuiasosopo. Johjima then came through with a two-run single up the middle.

Betancourt opened the third frame by drawing a walk and quickly came around on an Ibanez double to center to make it a 4-0 game.

The Rangers bounced back in a big way during the fifth. Blalock worked a walk and Cruz followed by depositing his fourth homer of the year over the wall in center. Davis kept things going with a single and Teagarden drilled his fourth home run of the season to deadlock things at 4-4.

The Mariners bounced right back with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth. Ibanez doubled down the right field line, moved to third on a Jose Lopez grounder and scored when Blalock flubbed Reed's ground ball at first. Balentien and Tuiasosopo then followed with consecutive singles to plate another run and make it 6-4.

The back-and-forth action continued in the sixth when Texas evened things again. With Josh Hamilton on first and one down, Jake Woods was summoned from the Mariners bullpen and Blalock greeted the reliever with his fifth home run of the season.
