Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Scott Lewis was brilliant in his major league debut and Kelly Shoppach belted a pair of homers as Cleveland bested Baltimore, 7-1, in the third test of a four-game series at Camden Yards.
Lewis (1-0), who was starting in place of Anthony Reyes and spent most of the season at Double-A Akron, hurled eight shutout innings and allowed just three hits while striking out three for the Indians, who won for the 13th time in 15 tries on the road.
Asdrubal Cabrera finished 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for Cleveland.
Aubrey Huff was 1-for-4 with an RBI double for the floundering Orioles, who have dropped 10 of 11 and 15 of their last 17 games.
Chris Waters (2-3) surrendered five runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the loss.
The Tribe jumped on top in the first when Jamey Carroll got on with a one-out single, advanced to third on Ben Francisco's ground-rule double and crossed the plate after Jhonny Peralta lofted a sacrifice fly to center.
The Indians carved out some breathing room with a three-spot in the fourth. Waters quickly got in trouble and loaded the bases when he sandwiched a Ryan Garko double by walking Shoppach and plunking Franklin Gutierrez. Cabrera then laced a two-run double before Grady Sizemore made it a 4-0 game with a sac fly to left.
Shoppach's two-out solo homer in the fifth, his 18th of the year, extended Cleveland's lead to 5-0.
The Indians tacked on another two runs in the seventh. Another Shoppach solo shot made it a 6-0 game before Garko followed by drawing a walk, moving to third on a Gutierrez double and crossing the plate on Cabrera's sacrifice fly.
The Orioles finally found the scoreboard in the ninth off Masahide Kobayashi when Huff laced a run-scoring ground-rule double to left.
