Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Greg Dobbs clubbed a three-run homer and Jamie Moyer tossed seven shutout innings, as the Philadelphia Phillies downed the New York Mets, 6-2, in the opener of a day-night doubleheader from Shea Stadium.

The doubleheader became necessary when Saturday's game was postponed due to Tropical Storm Hanna.

Carlos Ruiz finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Phillies, who trail the front-running Mets by one game in the NL East standings.

Moyer (13-7), the oldest player in the majors at 45, scattered two hits, walked three and fanned one en route to his third straight win.

David Wright and Carlos Beltran each doubled in a run for the Mets, who lost for just the second time in their last six games.

"We need to do a better job jumping on them," Wright said.

Pedro Martinez (5-4) absorbed the loss, tagged for six runs on seven hits in four innings of work. Six relievers combined to give up just two hits over the final five frames.

Philadelphia's Cole Hamels and New York's Johan Santana are slated to start the nightcap.

Philadelphia put two runs on the board in the second. Jayson Werth drew a one- out walk and Dobbs lined a double over the outstretched glove of a leaping Fernando Tatis in right. Matt Stairs then hit a sacrifice fly and Ruiz smacked an RBI single to left for a 2-0 Phillies lead.

"Anytime you can jump out to a lead and give Jamie a cushion, it always helps," Dobbs said.

The Phillies jumped on Martinez with a four-spot in the fourth. Ryan Howard doubled and Werth singled before Dobbs connected on an 0-1 pitch and deposited the offering over the right-field wall. One out later, Ruiz hit a ground-rule double and later scored on Jimmy Rollins' two-bagger, increasing the Phillies advantage to six runs.

Scott Eyre replaced Moyer to start the eighth inning and quickly retired the first two batters before Nick Evans, Wright and Beltran ripped three consecutive doubles to make it a 6-2 game.
