Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jim Thome hit a three-run home run and the Chicago White Sox tied a major league record with four consecutive home runs as part of a 9-2 win over the Kansas City Royals, completing a three-game sweep.
Paul Konerko, Alexei Ramirez and Juan Uribe each followed Thome's long ball with home runs of their own in the sixth to tie a major league record which was last accomplished by the Boston Red Sox against the New York Yankees on April 22, 2007.
"It was great and fun to watch. We just exploded and it's a big win for us," said Thome of the four straight homers, the sixth time in major league history a team went back-to-back-to-back-to-back.
Jermaine Dye went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Lance Broadway (1-0) got the win as he gave up two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings of work for the White Sox, who have won four of five overall.
With the win, Chicago now holds a one-game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central.
Jose Guillen drove in a pair of runs for the Royals, who have lost seven of their last eight. Kyle Davies (5-4) gave up three runs on nine hits in five innings of work to pick up his second straight loss.
In the sixth, Chicago used the long ball to score six times.
Joel Peralta started on the mound and got Orlando Cabrera to ground out, but then walked Ken Griffey Jr. and Carlos Quentin before getting Dye to pop out for the second out of the inning. Thome then stepped to the plate and crushed a 3-1 pitch into the right-center stands. Konerko and Ramirez followed with shots over the left field wall.
Robinson Tejeda then took the mound and Uribe smoked a pitch into the left field stands for a 9-2 lead.
"That hurt," said Royals manager Trey Hillman. "But you know it is happening because you are seeing it. We left pitches over the plate to dangerous hitters."
D.J. Carrasco, who got the final out of the sixth, pitched the seventh while Adam Russell threw two perfect innings to finish the contest.
The Royals, who had been shutout in the previous two games, took a 2-0 lead in the first as Mitch Maier led off with a single, Mike Aviles followed with a double and both runners later came home on a single from Guillen.
The White Sox jumped ahead in the second with three runs. Back-to-back one-out singles from Uribe and Toby Hall were followed by a run-scoring single from Cabrera. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Dye doubled to left scoring Hall and Cabrera for a 3-2 lead.
