American League Game Summary - Toronto at Texas

Final Score: Toronto 8 - Texas 9

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - David Murphy went 3-for-5 and drove in four, including the two game-winning runs in the ninth, as the Texas Rangers stole one from the Toronto Blue Jays, 9-8, in the opener of a three-game set.

B.J. Ryan tried to close it out for the Jays in the ninth and got Ian Kinsler to ground out. Pinch-hitter Jarrod Saltalamacchia worked a walk before Michael Young connected on a single.

Brandon Boggs then hit an RBI double to left-center to make it a one-run game and Marlon Byrd was intentionally walked to load the bases. Murphy laced a two-run single past a diving Scott Rolen at third to end the game.

Texas starter Tommy Hunter, who made his major league debut, lasted five frames and was touched for six runs on eight hits. C.J. Wilson (2-2) earned the win despite giving up two runs in the ninth.

Young and Boggs both drove in a run for the Rangers, who are 3-3 over their last six games. Josh Hamilton hit a solo home run, but left after the sixth inning with dizziness.

Toronto starter Shaun Marcum was roughed up for six runs on seven hits in just 4 1/3 innings of work. Ryan (2-4) absorbed the loss as he yielded three runs on three hits while getting just one out in the ninth.

Rolen hit a three-run homer for the Jays, who have dropped three straight and four-of-five. Lyle Overbay went 2-for-4 with a two-run shot.

The Jays got on the board in the second inning. Matt Stairs led off with a walk, Rod Barajas followed with a single and Rolen made it 3-0 as he clubbed a homer to center.

Toronto added onto the lead in the third. Alex Rios led off with a single before Overbay laced his eighth homer of the year to right field to give the Jays a 5-0 lead.

Joe Inglett led the fourth off with a single, moved to third on Marco Scutaro's single and crossed home as Rios grounded into a force.

Texas began its comeback in the home fourth. Frank Catalanotto led off with a double before Young grounded out. Hamilton followed with a homer to center, making it 6-2.

The Rangers tied it up in the fifth. Ramon Vazquez clubbed a one-out single and Kinsler followed with a base hit. Catalanotto kept it going with an RBI single before Young hit an RBI double, chasing Marcum in favor of Jesse Carlson. Hamilton went down swinging and Marlon Byrd was intentionally walked, leading to Murphy's two run single.

Toronto countered with two runs in the ninth off of Wilson. Rios started it off with a single and, after Overbay flied out against Travis Metcalf, Adam Lind legged out an RBI triple. Pinch-hitter Kevin Mench then grounded out, which plated Lind and put the Jays up 8-6.
