National League Game Summary - Los Angeles at Colorado

Final Score: Los Angeles 16 - Colorado 10

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - James Loney went 3-for-6, drove in five runs and scored twice as Los Angeles used an avalanche of early runs to get by Colorado, 16-10, in the first of a three-game series at Coors Field.

Andre Ethier, Jeff Kent and Angel Berroa each picked up two RBI for the Dodgers, who scored in each of the first five innings to record their fourth win in five games.

"First off, when you score eight runs in the first inning, that's a nice lead," said Dodgers manager Joe Torre. "But you know in this ballpark, you're not safe. We scored in the first five innings, they scored in the last seven innings, so it's good we had that big cushion."

Russell Martin added three hits, three runs scored and one knocked in as Los Angeles posted season-highs with 16 runs and 18 hits.

Brian Falkenborg (2-2) got the win by going 1 1/3 innings, giving up four hits and a run. Starter Eric Stults allowed six hits and three runs over 3 2/3 innings, driving in a run despite the no-decision.

Matt Holliday and Brad Hawpe both registered three hits and three RBI for the Rockies, whose four-game win streak was snapped despite rallying from an 11-0 deficit and collecting 20 hits. Ian Stewart also drove in two.

Troy Tulowitzki, making his first start since coming off the 15-day disabled list with a hand injury, had a career-high five hits with an RBI and a run scored.

Starter Kip Wells (1-2), who was activated from the 60-day disabled list prior to the contest, had a horrendous outing. He lasted just one-third of an inning, charged with seven hits and eight runs -- seven earned.

The Dodgers wasted no time in jumping out to a lead, slamming Wells and Colorado for eight runs in the first inning.

Matt Kemp began the rally with a double and moved up on a wild pitch. Ethier doubled to bring in Kemp, then Martin singled to plate Ethier for a 2-0 game. Kent followed with a base hit to put runners on first and second, and after Andruw Jones fanned, Andy LaRoche worked a walk.

Berroa tacked on a two-run single, then Jeff Baker's fielding error on Stults' grounder scored LA's sixth run. Kemp bounced a ground-rule double over the wall in center for a 7-0 lead and Wells was mercifully lifted.

"They hit them through the hole, over the head, in the gap, so I just couldn't seem to find a way to get an out," said Wells.

Justin Speier managed to yield a groundout to Ethier which scored Stults with the final run of the frame before getting Martin on a grounder to end the onslaught.

Kent doubled and Loney singled him in for a 9-0 score in the second. Kent's two-out, two-run double in the third pushed the Dodgers into double digits, then Holliday finally answered with a solo shot in the home third.

LaRoche's RBI single in the fourth put the Dodgers up 12-1, then a Stewart double and an infield single by Holliday reduced the Rockies' deficit to nine in the home half.

In the fifth, LA put up four more runs on Loney's bases-clearing triple and a LaRoche double-play grounder. Colorado countered in its turn on Stewart's groundout to plate Hawpe.

The Rockies picked up two more runs in the home half against Cody Wade, as Garrett Atkins knocked in Holliday with a double and Hawpe's grounder two batters later scored Atkins.

Holliday added an RBI double in the seventh to make it 16-7, then Colorado officially got halfway back in the eighth on Tulowitzki's sacrifice fly.

Hawpe's two-run double with two outs in the ninth brought the home team within 16-10, but Hong-Chi Kuo managed to close the door and wrap up the game.
