MLB Game Summary - Atlanta at Toronto

Final Score: Atlanta 5 - Toronto 9

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Joe Inglett hit a clutch two-run, two-out single as part of a four-run sixth and the Blue Jays hung on to beat the Atlanta Braves, 9-5, in the second of three games at the Rogers Centre.

John Parrish (1-0) made his Blue Jays debut, having pitched parts of six seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners, compiling a 12-12 career record with a 4.63 earned run average in 10 starts. In his first appearance of the year and his first start since 2004, he finished the day having thrown six excellent innings, allowing only one run on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

"I really didn't have anything to lose," Parrish said. "I knew coming in what the situation was. I tried to just forget about all that and go out there and do what I was doing earlier in the year."

Rod Barajas added a home run, a double and three runs scored while Scott Rolen and Matt Stairs each contributed with two hits and a run scored to help Toronto win for the fourth time in six games.

Tim Hudson (8-6) pitched well until the sixth inning, when he gave up four runs and did not record an out. He finished the day having pitched five-plus innings, giving up six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Blanco batted 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored and Johnson added two hits for the Braves, who have lost for the third time in five games.

"We made a nice comeback but we couldn't hold them again," Braves manager Bobby Cox said. "We had plenty of hitting late. We didn't do much early but we scored late."

After two one-out hits by Stairs and Rolen, the Blue Jays took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Lyle Overbay.

Atlanta tied up the game in the fifth inning when Mark Teixeira scored from first on Brian McCann's one-out double to deep center field.

Barajas quickly broke the tie in the home half of the fifth, leading off the inning with his sixth home run of the year to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. The Blue Jays threatened to score again after a wild pitch sent David Eckstein to third with two outs, but Alex Rios could not knock the run home, instead grounding out to end the inning.

The Braves put together a rally in the top of the sixth, loading the bases with two outs after Teixeira's second walk of the day. After Greg Norton worked the count full, he hit a lazy fly ball that was easily caught by Inglett.

After Vernon Wells led off the inning with a home run, the Blue Jays used two walks and a single to load the bases and knock Hudson out of the game. The Blue Jays would score one run on an Adam Lind sacrifice fly off Jeff Bennett before re-loading the bases with two outs for Inglett, who lined a single to center field to stretch the lead to 6-1.

The Braves came roaring back with four runs in the eighth. After Brandon Jones led off with a double, Gregor Blanco's RBI triple and Kelly Johnson's RBI single two batters later cut the lead to three. Teixeira then blasted a two-run homer to deep right-center field to make it a one-run game.

Toronto got most of the runs back in the eighth from a Eckstein RBI single and Wells' two-run double to give the Blue Jays a four-run cushion, 9-5.

B.J. Ryan pitched a scoreless ninth, scattering two hits, to secure the game for the Blue Jays.
