Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Joe Mauer's solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in the go-ahead run, as the Minnesota Twins rallied to down the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-6, and stretch their winning streak to 10 games.
Jason Kubel finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored for Minnesota, which is riding its longest winning streak since taking 11 straight from June 22-July 3, 2006. The run includes sweeps of National League opponents Washington, Arizona and San Diego, and the Twins are an MLB-best 13-3 in interleague play this season.
Delmon Young went 3-for-4 and drove in a run. Second baseman Alexi Casilla went 2-for-2 with a solo home run before leaving in the fifth inning because of a sprained left middle finger. He was replaced by Nick Punto.
Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn went just 4 2/3 innings and allowed six runs on nine hits with five strikeouts. Brian Bass gave up one hit in 2 1/3 innings of relief. The rally made a winner out of Matt Guerrier (4-2) after he hurled a scoreless eighth.
The Twins remain a half-game back of Chicago for first place in the AL Central after the White Sox defeated the Chicago Cubs, 10-3, earlier Friday.
Corey Hart clubbed a pair of home runs and finished with three RBI for the Brewers, who have dropped two in a row following a four-game winning streak. J.J. Hardy belted a two-run homer, while Russell Branyan added a solo shot. Ryan Braun was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored.
"I was able to get a few pitches over the plate and I was able to get them out," Hart said. "Good days (at the plate) don't really matter too much if you don't win."
Seth McClung went 4 2/3 innings and surrendered five runs on nine hits for Milwaukee. Guillermo Mota (2-5) was saddled with the loss after he gave up the home run to Mauer.
With two outs in the eighth, Mota left an 0-2 fastball up in the zone and Mauer hammered it to straight-away center field to give the home squad a 7-6 lead.
"It was good, especially with Mota's fastball," Mauer said. "I had to hit it in the right spot and let his fastball do the work."
Joe Nathan worked around a pair of hits by Rickie Weeks and Braun in the ninth to notch his 22nd save of the season.
The Twins grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Casilla's one-out blast to right field, but back-to-back homers by Hart and Branyan to open the next frame put the visitors on top, 2-1.
A pair of bunt singles by Carlos Gomez and Casilla put men on first and second with nobody out in the third. Gomez advanced to third on a fly out by Mauer and scored the tying run when Justin Morneau grounded out.
The Twins regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth on Kubel's lead-off shot to right field.
Trailing 3-2, the Brewers pulled ahead with four runs in the top of the fifth. Hardy followed a one-out single by Weeks with a two-run smash to right field. Braun then doubled and came around to score on Hart's second home run of the game, a two-out bomb to left.
Minnesota quickly answered with a pair of runs in the next frame. Mauer was aboard with a one-out double and moved to third on a single by Morneau. McClung then nipped the jersey of Michael Cuddyer to load the bases, and Kubel followed with a sacrifice fly. Young then stroked a high chopper over the mound to narrow the deficit to 6-5. Carlos Villanueva was summoned from the bullpen and got Brian Buscher to ground out to end the inning.
The Twins knotted the score in the bottom of the seventh. After Morneau grounded out to begin the inning, Cuddyer and Kubel stroked back-to-back singles. Young then smacked a single to left. Cuddyer rounded third and headed for home on the play, but Braun made a strong throw to Jason Kendall, who applied the tag for out number two. Brian Shouse then entered from the bullpen and promptly served up a run-scoring single to Buscher.
