MLB Game Summary - Atlanta at Toronto

Final Score: Atlanta 4 - Toronto 0

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Jair Jurrjens was brilliant over eight shutout innings, while Mark Teixeira provided the power with three runs batted in as the Atlanta Braves topped the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-0, in the opener of a three-game set at Rogers Centre.

Jurrjens (8-3) allowed just three hits while striking out three and walking one while posting a career-high in innings pitched for the Braves, who won their second straight game. The right-hander has been victorious in his last four decisions, a span of eight outings.

Teixeira went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, while Gregor Blanco went 2-for-4, knocked in a run and scored once.

Dustin McGowan (6-6) was touched for all four runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings for the Jays, who have lost nine of 12 overall. Matt Stairs, Scott Rolen and Alex Rios had Toronto's only hits.

The Braves jumped on top in the first, as Ruben Gotay doubled with one out and Teixeira followed one out later with his 15th homer of the year, a blast to right-center.

Atlanta tacked on another in the third, as Blanco led off with a single, then scored two outs later when Teixeira ripped a double past Vernon Wells in center.

Jurrjens cruised through the early going, retiring the first 13 Toronto batters before Stairs' single in the fifth.

Blanco capped off the scoring in the seventh, following a Brandon Jones triple with an RBI single. Jurrjens dominated the Blue Jays down the stretch, and Mike Gonzalez worked a perfect ninth to finish off the win.
