Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Dave Bush hurled seven solid innings and the Milwaukee Brewers staved off a late rally to edge the Atlanta Braves, 4-3, in the second of a three-game set.
Bush (4-7) lasted seven innings and yielded just one run on four hits while striking out five. Torres survived a ninth-inning scare, giving up two runs on two hits with two walks, to earn his career-best 13th save. Corey Hart and J.J. Hardy each had a double and an RBI for the Brewers, who have won four in a row and eight of nine.
"I just try to be consistent every time and give us the best chance to win," Bush said. "The offense gave me some runs early on, which was nice."
Mark Teixeira had a double and hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning for the Braves, who have lost four of six overall. Omar Infante had the other Atlanta RBI. Charlie Morton (1-1) was dealt the loss as he was touched for four runs -- two earned -- on seven hits.
Up 4-1, Torres was on the hill trying to close it out for the Brew Crew in the ninth, but issued a lead off free pass to Kelly Johnson. Teixeira was up next and made Milwaukee pay, as he deposited the first pitch he saw over the fence in left.
"Sometimes the best pitch you're going to see is the first one," Teixeira said. "Most guys want to get ahead quickly, so I was just looking for a good pitch to hit and got one."
Brian McCann kept it going with a liner to center and the tying runner was on first. Infante advanced Jair Jurrjens, pinch-running for McCann, with a sac bunt and Jeff Francoeur put the runner on third with a grounder. Brandon Jones was intentionally walked before pinch-hitter Corky Miller hit a soft liner to Hardy to end the threat.
Rickie Weeks led off the game by reaching first on a throwing error by Yunel Escobar and Hardy followed with a single. Ryan Braun belted a single to right, plating Weeks and leaving runners on the corners, before Prince Fielder flied out. Hart then grounded into a force out, which scored Hardy and put the Brewers up 2-0.
Milwaukee tacked on another run in the second inning. Jason Kendall got things going with a single and moved to second on Bush's sac bunt. Weeks grounded to Escobar for the second out, but Hardy hit a double over the head of Jones in left to bring Kendall around.
Kendall led off the fourth with a walk and stole second base. Bush then laid down a perfect sac bunt and Weeks followed with a sac fly to right, plating Kendall and giving the Brewers a 4-0 advantage.
The Braves rallied in the seventh to make it 4-1. Teixeira opened the frame with a double and moved to third as McCann grounded out. Infante then hit a slow rolling ground out to Weeks, allowing Teixeira to cross home plate.
