MLB Game Summary - Seattle at Atlanta

Final Score: Seattle 3 - Atlanta 8

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Mark Teixeira smacked three home runs and Tim Hudson hurled seven shutout innings in Atlanta's 8-3 drubbing of the Seattle Mariners in the rubber match of a three-game interleague set.

Teixeira connected on a pair of round-trippers from the left side of the plate and crushed a two-run shot right-handed, accounting for four RBI in Atlanta's second straight win. It was the slugger's second career three-homer effort.

"I haven't been hitting the ball great this year," Teixeira said. "I haven't been consistent. So for a game like this to help us win the game, it was nice. It's pretty cool."

Hudson (8-5), who surrendered a season-high six runs in his last outing, was just as impressive for the Braves, giving up just four hits and four walks, while striking out two.

Brian McCann had two hits, including a home run, and Ruben Gotay recorded a two-run single during the Braves' 14-hit barrage.

Seattle starter Carlos Silva (3-9) was lit up for four runs on nine hits in just four innings of work, as the right-hander remained winless in his last 10 outings. Jeff Clement slammed a two-run homer for the Mariners, who have dropped seven of nine.

Teixeira got things started in the second, opening the frame with a blast down the right field line to begin his big day.

Back-to-back homers in the fourth jump-started a three-run inning. Teixeira relocated Silva's first pitch of the frame into the first row of seats in right-center, and McCann followed with one of his own to straight-away center that barely made it over the wall.

A pair of singles put runners on the corners for Gregor Blanco, who singled up the middle to knock in a run for a 4-0 Braves lead.

Gotay made it a six-run game an inning later, coming through with a two-out, two-run single through the hole between first and second base.

With Ryan Rowland-Smith on the mound in the seventh, Teixeira switched around to the right side of the plate and smoked a two-run liner over the left field wall for his third homer of the game, a first for a Brave at Turner Field.

"Three home runs is pretty hard to do," Smith said. "He's an aggressive hitter. That first pitch I tried to sneak a fastball by him, and you have to tip you hat off to him."

Hudson, meanwhile, was dealing on the other side. After the third inning, he allowed just two walks and a double before handing things over to the bullpen.

Mike Gonzalez couldn't finish off the shutout in the ninth, yielding a two-run homer to Clement and an RBI single to Willie Bloomquist before fanning Raul Ibanez to end the game.
