MLB Game Summary - Arizona at Minnesota

Final Score: Arizona 3 - Minnesota 5

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Livan Hernandez outdueled 10-game winner Brandon Webb, as the Minnesota Twins used a five-run fifth to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-3, in the finale of a three-game interleague series.

Hernandez (8-4) tossed a savvy seven frames, allowing three runs -- one earned -- on nine hits and a walk while fanning five.

Webb (11-4) was victimized by costly fielding and baserunning mistakes but still allowed five runs - four earned - on eight hits through seven innings.

Webb is now a subpar 2-4 with a no-decision in his last seven starts, missing a chance to pass Anaheim's Joe Saunders for the league lead in wins.

Alexi Casilla and Brian Buscher both had two hits and two runs batted in while scoring once for the Twins. Minnesota swept a six-game homestand dispatching of the Nationals before taking three form the D'Backs.

"We fight every day," Hernandez said of his Twins teammates. "We play hard, the right way and never quit. The team's close to first place. We need to try to win some games."

Conor Jackson was 3-for-4 with a run scored while Chris Snyder and Mark Reynolds had two hits and run scored each for Arizona, which has dropped three of its last four.

"We had three bad innings in three games and it cost us," D'Backs skipper Bob Melvin said.

The Twins got a break in the fifth with an assist from their home ballpark. Jason Kubel led off with a single and Delmon Young lofted a high fly ball to left. Jackson had trouble tracking the ball in the backdrop of the notorious Metrodome roof and watched the ball drop to the turf in front of him.

With runners at second and third, Buscher chopped a two-run single back up the middle. Brendan Harris singled and Carlos Gomez moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Casilla followed with a two-run single of his own and moved to third when Stephen Drew missed a grounder off the bat of Joe Mauer. Justin Morneau brought Casilla home on a sacrifice fly and the Twins suddenly had a 5-3 lead.

"I can't fault him," Melvin said of Jackson losing the ball in left. "He played the position pretty well, he just lost it. We couldn't nail it down after that and it got out of hand."

Arizona managed just two singles the rest of the way in the sixth and seventh. Jesse Crain and Joe Nathan pitched a perfect eighth and ninth respectively, with Nathan recording his 19th save in the process.

Minnesota miscues opened the door for three Arizona runs in the fourth. Jackson and Mark Reynolds singled around a fly out before Chris Young was caught looking at strike three.

Snyder then lined a single to left. Young charged the ball, building momentum for a throw to the plate but charged right on by as the ball rolled to the wall. Snyder had to be held at third on the play but Hernandez uncorked a wild pitch and Snyder trotted home for the D'Backs third run.
