St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Mark Teahen finished 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI, as Kansas City recorded a 4-1 win over St. Louis in the final test of a three-game interleague clash at Busch Stadium.
Mark Grudzielanek added two hits, knocked in a run and scored twice for the Royals, who swept the series from their intrastate rivals and have won five games in a row overall.
Zach Greinke (6-4) was fantastic on the hill, yielding just two hits and one run over seven innings with seven strikeouts. Joakim Soria pitched a scoreless ninth for his 18th save.
Rick Ankiel homered for the Cardinals, who have dropped four of their last six. Brad Thompson (1-2) suffered the loss by allowing five hits and two runs in five full frames.
In the ninth facing Chris Perez, the Royals increased their lead to three as Grudzielanek walked and Teahen followed with a two-run blast to right.
Soria ended the contest by setting down St. Louis with a pair of groundouts and a strikeout.
Kansas City broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with a pair of runs when Grudzielanek doubled in a run followed by Teahen's RBI single.
Ankiel's solo homer in the home half cut the Cardinals deficit to 2-1, but Greinke bore down from there.
He retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced. His only mistake a two-out single by Aaron Miles in the sixth that was quickly erased by inducing an inning-ending fielder's choice from Ryan Ludwick.
