Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Greg Reynolds pitched six strong innings allowing just one run for the Colorado Rockies in a 10-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the opener of a three-game set.
Reynolds (2-4) gave up the run on five hits while striking out four.
"I didnt leave too many fastballs up, and when I did, it surprised the hitters," Reynolds said. "So the mistakes, they werent capitalizing on the mistakes because I was keeping the ball down for the most part."
Willy Taveras went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and runs scored while Brad Hawpe and Jeff Baker each hit two-run homers, Baker's being an inside-the-parker for the Rockies, who have won nine of their last 13 games.
Paul Byrd (3-7) went just four-plus innings for Cleveland, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out four. Jhonny Peralta was 3-for-4 with a triple for the Indians, who have lost two of three.
Baker's inside-the-park homer, his second round-tripper this season, scored Taveras, who reached on a fielder's choice, to give Colorado the lead in the third inning.
"It was part way between second and third when I saw Gags (third base coach Mike Gallego) waving his arms emphatically," Baker said. "I knew something was up, so I tried to go as hard as I could"
Colorada made it 4-0 in the fourth inning as Garrett Atkins reached base on a one-out single and was followed by Hawpe's homer.
Cleveland got on the board in the fifth on a Casey Blake sacrifice fly. Peralta tripled to lead off the inning and Blake brought him home one batter later.
The Rockies wasted little time getting the lead back to four in the bottom of the frame. Baker reached on an infield single and scored when Holliday followed him with a double.
Colorado struck again in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead. Reynolds hit a leadoff base-hit before Holliday singled three batters later. A Todd Helton two- out walk loaded the bases for Atkins, who singled to left to score Reynolds and Holliday.
Colorado extended its lead with a three-run seventh. Chris Iannetta and Omar Quintanilla led off the inning with a single and double, respectively. Two batters later, Taveras tripled to score Iannetta and Quintanilla before a Holliday RBI single two batters later.
Cleveland used another triple, this time by Jamey Carroll, to set up its second run. Ryan Garko hit a sacrifice fly two batters after Carroll to make it 10-2.
