MLB Game Summary - Atlanta at Texas

Final Score: Atlanta 5 - Texas 7

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Vicente Padilla threw six solid innings, and Josh Hamilton homered and scored twice for Texas, which held off Atlanta to win, 7-5, in the opener of a three-game interleague series with the Braves.

Padilla (9-3) picked up the win after allowing two runs -- one earned -- on two hits, while walking two and fanning four for the Rangers, who have won just two of their past five.

"I was more in control of the game," Padilla said.

Milton Bradley, who owned an American League-best .329 batting average entering Tuesday's slate of games, had a single and two runs batted in before leaving with a strained left quadriceps in the third inning. Every starter in Texas' lineup had at least one hit except for Michael Young and David Murphy -- though Young and Murphy each had an RBI.

Tim Hudson (7-5) was roughed up for six runs on six hits in just 4 1/3 frames for Atlanta, which had won three of four. Brian McCann finished 2-for-4 with a three-run homer for the Braves, while Omar Infante hit a solo shot.

Mark Teixeira, who spent four-plus seasons with the Rangers before being traded to Atlanta last season, made his first return trip to Rangers Ballpark and went 0-for-2 with an RBI.

Hamilton smacked his 19th homer of the season in the first, a two-out solo shot, to give the Rangers the early lead. Texas soon increased its lead, scoring four more times in the third.

Gerald Laird and Ramon Vazquez led off the frame with singles, and Ian Kinsler walked to load the bases. Young then grounded into a run-scoring fielder's choice that plated Laird and left runners on the corners.

After Hamilton worked a walk to make the bases full once more, Bradley smoked a Hudson fastball to the gap in right-center field. It plated two runs for a 4-0 lead, but Bradley pulled up while running to first. A Rangers trainer went out to attend to Bradley, who tested out his left quadriceps in a brief sprint.

But he left the game as Brandon Boggs pinch-ran and took over the designated hitter spot. After play resumed, Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Hamilton. A wild pitch in the fifth allowed Kinsler to score and push the Rangers' lead to 6-0.

In the top of the sixth, Atlanta provided some response when Infante hit his first homer of the season, a leadoff shot to left. It was his first home run since July 26 of last year, when Infante played with Detroit.

A Teixeira sacrifice fly later in the same inning brought in Gregor Blanco to bring the Braves within 6-2. Marlon Byrd's solo homer in the home half, though, put Texas back in front by five.

"He threw me something off-speed," Byrd said of Jeff Ridgway's pitch. "I sat back and took it the other way."

The Braves made the game interesting in the eighth against Eddie Guardado. With two outs, Chipper Jones and Teixeira worked walks. McCann then blasted a Guardado slider over the wall in right field to bring Atlanta within 7-5.

But Guardado got Jeff Francoeur to fly out, ending the inning, and in the ninth, C.J. Wilson worked around a leadoff double from Brandon Jones to notch his 14th save of the season.
