Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Jair Jurrjens silenced the Rockies' bats over 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball, as the Atlanta Braves bested the Colorado Rockies, 7-1, in the finale of a four-game set originally scheduled for April 10.
Jurrjens (7-3) allowed eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts, helping Atlanta avoid the sweep, as Monday's contest was a makeup of an April contest postponed due to snow.
Chipper Jones was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a walk, scoring once while Jeff Francoeur and Brandon Jones added two-run hits for Atlanta, victors in three of its last four.
"Three-one count, nothing-nothing game, bases-loaded, you darn sure don't want to walk in a run and have things snowball from there," Jones said of his two- run single in the fifth. "So I was able to sit on a pitch and hit one good."
Ubaldo Jimenez (1-7) pitched well as the starter but was hurt by five walks, including two in the fifth leading to a three-run inning for Atlanta. Jimenez allowed three runs -- two earned run -- and fanned seven through five innings in the loss, dropping his sixth consecutive decision.
Matt Holiday and Garrett Atkins had two hits apiece and Scott Podsednik had the lone RBI for Colorado, which had a two-game win streak halted.
"We've really had chances to sweep some teams, but we just haven't done it," Rockies first baseman Todd Helton explained. "We need to get a better killer instinct about us, and put some teams away."
Atlanta finally got to Jimenez for three runs in the fifth. Gregor Blanco worked a leadoff walk before Jurrjens hit into a force out at second. Yunel Escobar singled and Kelly Johnson walked to load the bases before Chipper Jones stroked a single to right plating two. Johnson moved to third after Brad Hawpe mishandled the ball in right and scored on a Mark Teixeira groundout.
Matt Herges entered in the seventh for Colorado, allowing a leadoff walk to Johnson and single to Chipper Jones. Francoeur then ripped a two-out double to the gap in left-center scoring two.
Colorado wasted a leadoff triple by Hawpe in the home half. Chris Iannetta followed Hawpe with a walk but Jurrjens retired the next three batters to keep Colorado off the board.
Atlanta tacked on two more in the ninth for good measure. Manuel Corpas, who started the eighth, got two quick outs in the ninth before giving up back-to- back singles and a wild pitch to put two runners in scoring position. Brandon Jones then flared a single to left, plating two runs.
Colorado decided to wake up the bats in the ninth when Iannetta walked to start the frame and scored on a looping Podsednik single to left.
