MLB Game Summary - Colorado at Chicago White Sox

Final Score: Colorado 5 - Chicago WSox 3

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Scott Podsednik had two hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Colorado Rockies downed the Chicago White Sox, 5-3, in the finale of a three-game interleague set.

Brad Hawpe and Chris Iannetta each hit solo home runs while Matt Holliday drove in the other run for the Rockies, who have won four of their last six. Aaron Cook (10-3) got the win as he gave up three runs on 10 hits in six innings of work.

Jermaine Dye hit a two-run home run and Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with the other RBI for the White Sox, who have dropped five of their last six games. Jose Contreras (6-5) gave up four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.

The Rockies started the game strong and grabbed a lead in the first. Willy Taveras led off with a bunt single, stole second and then came home on Podsednik's single, with Podsednik taking second base on a throwing error by Ramirez. Holliday then punched a single to center to score Podsednik for a 2-0 lead.

The White Sox got on the board in the fourth as, with the bases loaded, Ramirez beat out an infield single to score Joe Crede and make it a 2-1 game.

Colorado, though, got the run back in the fifth as Omar Quintanilla worked a leadoff walk, moved to second on Taveras' sacrifice bunt and crossed the plate on a single from Podsednik.

However, Chicago tied the game in the bottom half of the fifth when A.J. Pierzynski hit a one-out single and Dye blasted a shot over the wall in center.

The Rockies, though, did regain the lead in the sixth courtesy of a two-out solo home run from Hawpe into the left field stands for a 4-3 advantage.

The White Sox got runners on first and third in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a double from Ramirez and an infield single from Orlando Cabrera, but Pierzynski fouled out to end the frame.

Ryan Speier started the seventh for Colorado and began the frame by hitting Dye with a pitch. But he struck out Jim Thome, got Crede to pop out and Dye was then caught stealing to end the frame.

Taylor Buchholz worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning while Iannetta gave the Rockies some cushion in the ninth with a solo homer to left for a 5-3 advantage.

Brian Fuentes made it interesting in the ninth as he loaded the bases with two outs, but Crede hit a fly ball to left that Holliday bobbled and barely hung onto, and Fuentes got his 11th save of the season.
