Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Brian Buscher went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs, including the go-ahead two-run single in the 12th inning, as the Twins beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 9-4, at Miller Park.
Pinch-hitter Michael Cuddyer added a two-run triple and scored on an error in the 12th for Minnesota, which has taken the first two contests of this weekend interleague series.
Milwaukee pinch-hitter Russell Branyan tied the game with a homer off Joe Nathan with two outs in the ninth. It was the second blown save all year for Nathan.
However, in the 12th, Joe Mauer singled, and Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel walked. Delmon Young grounded into a force out at home, but Buscher came through with a line hit to center field.
Mark DiFelice then came in from the bullpen and retired Brendan Harris on a fly ball, but Cuddyer followed with a fly ball to the wall in center. Mike Cameron leaped, but couldn't come up with it, and his relay throw caromed off infielder Bill Hall as Cuddyer rounded the bases.
Brian Bass (3-2) pitched the 11th inning to get the victory, while Julian Tavarez (0-1) suffered the loss.
"I don't know what to make of that ball game," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Lots of excitement, lots of missed opportunities. Someone's going to have to win and we came through with some big hits."
Ryan Braun homered for the Brewers, who had won two in a row coming into this series.
There was some controversy in the bottom of the 10th inning. Prince Fielder hit a deep fly off Matt Guerrier to center and over a leaping Carlos Gomez at the wall. The ball caromed off the yellow line at the top of the wall and back in play, as Fielder raced to third with two outs. Fielder and Brewers manager Ned Yost argued that the ball went over the wall, hitting the ivy before bouncing back in play, but replays showed otherwise. Cameron then hit a ball back to a diving Guerrier, who made the throw to first to end the inning.
"It hit the yellow line and bounced back," Yost said. "It doesn't matter if it hits the yellow line and bounces over the fence or bounces back to the field. If it's an inch more it hits the yellow line and bounces over."
The Brewers escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the 11th when Tavarez struck out Gomez and then got Alexi Casilla hit a weak grounder to shortstop.
Twins starter Glen Perkins was lifted after surrendering eight hits and three runs over six innings. He struck out six. Jeff Suppan yielded two runs on seven hits over seven innings, while doubling and scoring a run for the Brewers.
Suppan doubled to center with one out in the third and scored on a Joe Dillon base hit.
The teams then exchanged runs in the fourth with Young driving in Morneau with a single, and Craig Counsell singling in Fielder in the bottom half. However, the Brewers wasted a one-out bases loaded opportunity when Suppan and Corey Hart both flied out.
Braun belted his 18th homer of the season with one out in the fifth, a shot to left, but the Twins got within a run in the seventh. Kubel singled, Young doubled and Buscher lofted a sacrifice fly to center. The Twins stranded Young at third though.
Minnesota evened the score in the eighth when Gomez scored on a Morneau base hit with one out. That left runners at second and third, but Kubel struck out and Salomon Torres got Young to ground out.
The Twins went ahead in the ninth thanks mostly to an error from Hart. Buscher singled to right field, but the ball hopped under the glove of Hart and to the wall, allowing Buscher to race to third with nobody out. Harris then hit a sacrifice fly down the right field line to move the Twins ahead, 4-3.
Nathan came on to close it out, retiring Jason Kendall and Counsell, but Branyan got hold of a 1-1 pitch and belted the offering over the wall in center.
