Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jeff Baker doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as Colorado clipped Chicago, 2-0, in the middle test of a three-game interleague set at U.S. Cellular Field.
Matt Holliday, Brad Hawpe and Willy Taveras each collected two hits for the Rockies, who snapped a two-game slide.
Jason Grilli (2-1) hurled 1 2/3 innings of one-hit relief to notch the win. Starter Jorge De La Rosa was dazzling in the no-decision, allowing one hit with eight strikeouts over five innings.
A.J. Pierzynski collected two of the three hits for the White Sox, who have dropped four of five.
Octavio Dotel (3-4) took the loss for Chicago, charged with one run in one full inning in relief of John Danks, who scattered five hits over six scoreless frames.
Colorado finally broke through in the seventh facing Dotel. Baker slapped a ground-rule double to center, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Yorvit Torrealba. Omar Quintanilla grounded out, then Paul Konerko mishandled a sharp grounder from Taveras allowing Baker to score.
The Rockies had runners at first and third with two outs in the eighth, but Nick Masset diffused the situation by retiring Baker on a force out.
Torrealba began the ninth with a single, and moved up on a sacrifice bunt from Quintanilla. Taveras followed with a slow roller near the mound, but Masset rushed the throw and it ticked off Konerko's glove and into foul ground, allowing Colorado's second run to cross the plate.
Brian Fuentes nailed down the victory with a scoreless frame to pick up his 10th save.
Through five innings, the contest was scoreless with a combined five hits -- four to the Rockies.
Danks allowed just two baserunners past second base in that span, working out of jams in the first and fourth. Although Holliday doubled and moved up on a wild pitch in the sixth, the Rockies were held off after Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe both grounded out.
For the visitors, De La Rosa was splendid, giving up only a third-inning single to Brian Anderson before giving way to Grilli in the Chicago sixth.
