MLB Game Summary - Boston at Cincinnati

Final Score: Boston 6 - Cincinnati 4

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Kevin Youkilis and Coco Crisp hit back-to- back home runs in the 10th inning as Boston nipped Cincinnati, 6-4, in the middle contest of a three-game interleague set at Great American Ball Park.

Youkilis, who was born in Cincinnati and went to college in the Queen City, ended 3-for-5 with two RBI in his homecoming before a throng of friends and relatives.

The Red Sox collected their first-ever regular-season win in Cincinnati and have won three of their last four games overall. Mike Lowell added two hits and knocked in a run for the Red Sox, who hadn't played in Cincinnati since the 1975 World Series.

Jonathan Papelbon (3-2) notched the win for Boston, despite blowing his third save of the season by allowing a game-tying home run to Edwin Encarnacion with two outs in the ninth.

Adam Dunn and Brandon Phillips also homered for the Reds, whose two-game win streak ended.

Mike Lincoln (0-2) allowed the extra-inning blasts over 1 1/3 relief innings in defeat for Cincinnati.

Against Lincoln, Youkilis launched a one-out home run to right-center, then Crisp followed with a blast which landed in almost the same spot to give Boston a 6-4 lead. Following a walk to Alex Cora, Bill Bray entered the game and got Kevin Cash to fly out and pinch-hitter Manny Ramirez to strike out.

Craig Hansen picked up his first career save, working out of a first-and-third jam with two outs in the bottom half by getting Phillips to fly out.

Veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield was solid on the hill for Boston, allowing just four hits and two runs over seven full frames, striking out six with a pair of walks. On the other side of the ledger, Edinson Volquez yielded seven hits and three runs -- two earned -- over seven innings with nine strikeouts for Cincinnati.

Boston picked up a run in its first at-bat as Jacoby Ellsbury singled, moved to second on a groundout and scored on Paul Bako's throwing error while trying to steal third.

Dunn's 18th homer of the season, a one-out solo shot, evened the score in the second.

In the fourth, J.D. Drew tripled with one down and scored on an Volquez wild pitch to give the Sox a one-run lead once more.

Dustin Pedroia's RBI single two frames later gave the Sox a 3-1 edge, but a Phillips leadoff homer in the seventh brought the Reds within one.

The Sox padded their advantage in the eighth inning when Drew greeted David Weathers with a leadoff double and scored when Lowell followed with a base hit.

Hideki Okajima took over for Wakefield in the home eighth, but the Reds put men on first and second with one out on a Bako single and walk to Jay Bruce. Manny Delcarmen got the nod against pinch-hitter Javier Valentin, who slipped a ball through the right side to score a run and move Bruce to third. Ken Griffey Jr. had a prime chance to bring in the tying run, but bounced a 3-0 pitch into an inning-ending double play.

Usually steady closer Papelbon had retired the first two batters in the ninth before Encarnacion barely slugged a ball over the left-field wall to tie the game.
