Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Kevin Slowey mastered the Brewer bats for eight innings and registered his first major-league hit and RBI, as the Minnesota Twins pounded the Milwaukee Brewers 10-2, in the opener of a three- game interleague set at Miller Park.
Slowey (3-6) allowed two runs on five hits and didn't issue a walk. He also fanned five and snapped a two-start losing streak.
"It will be neat to look back on at some point," Slowey said. "I'll probably send the balls to my DaD to take care of them. I don't mind hitting, getting the chance to bunt and help the team. It's fun."
Justin Morneau and Alexi Casilla each drove in three runs and Slowey added two hits and two runs batted in for a complete effort. Delmon Young went 3-for-4 after replacing injured starter Michael Cuddyer and Minnesota notched its second win in the last three.
"Slowey's was a very good story," Twins skipper Ron Gardenhire remarked. "He threw the ball fantastic. I don't know how much more he could have done. He had a great night hitting and pitching."
Dave Bush (2-7) surrendered four runs - three earned - on 10 hits over six innings for Milwaukee, which had a two-game winning streak snapped.
"He (Bush) got a ball up to Morneau and he drove it to the gap," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. "He pitched ok. He kept us in the ballgame and gave us a chance to put something together and stay in the game. But from the seventh on, we didn't pitch well enough to keep the game even close."
Prince Fielder and Russell Branyan had four of the Brewers five hits with two apiece.
Minnesota put a run on the board in the first. Casilla reached on an error and Joe Mauer doubled to left before Casilla crossed home on a Morneau groundout.
The Twins extended their lead in the fifth. Carlos Gomez and Casilla started things off with back-to-back singles and Morneau cleared the bases with a triple to deep center. Young followed with a single, scoring Morneau to make it 4-0.
Slowey helped his own cause in the seventh with a two-run single off Tim Dillard. Young singled with one out and Jason Kubel reached on an error before a groundout moved the runners into scoring position for Slowey.
Casilla roped a two-out RBI double two batters later, to push the lead to 9-0.
Milwaukee finally put a pair of runs on the board in the home seventh when Craig Counsell tripled to right-center leading off and scored on a Ryan Braun sac fly. Fielder singled to center and Branyan doubled to left before Mike Cameron lofted the second sac fly of the inning.
Kubel added a solo shot in the eighth off Mark DiFelice.
