National League Game Summary - Milwaukee at Houston

Final Score: Milwaukee 10 - Houston 6

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Corey Hart finished 3-for-5 with a pair of two-run homers, as the Milwaukee Brewers used a five-homer effort to down Houston, 10-6, in the middle contest of a three-game set.

The five home runs were a season high for Milwaukee, as Russell Branyan, Mike Cameron and Jason Kendall each homered. Hart and Kendall also doubled for the Brewers, who have won two of three.

Manny Parra (5-2) earned the win thanks to the run support, as he gave up five runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Miguel Tejada, Carlos Lee and Ty Wigginton each hit one homer for Houston, while Lee added a pair of doubles. Brad Ausmus doubled and drove in two runs for the Astros, who have lost three of four and five of seven.

Brandon Backe (4-8) took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in just four innings of work.

The teams' offenses combined for 25 hits, 16 of which went for extra bases,

The Astros used their power to rally several times over the course of the game and drew within a run in the sixth inning. But the Brewers created some breathing room in the eighth the way they had all game -- with the home run.

Craig Counsell led off with a single, and after a Hernan Iribarren ground out, Hart hit his second home run of the game. Chris Sampson kept his pitch away from the tall outfielder, but Hart reached out and put enough of a swing on the ball to loft it into the left field seats. Prince Fielder later drove in Ryan Braun with a single to boost Milwaukee's lead to 10-6.

Guillermo Mota then came out of the Brewers' bullpen and shut the Astros down over the final two frames, setting them down in order each time to close out the contest.

J.J. Hardy and Braun hit consecutive doubles in the first inning to stake the Brewers to a 1-0 lead. But the Astros got the run back in the home second when Ausmus' single plated Lee, who had doubled to lead off the frame.

Houston edged in front on a pair of solo homers in the second. Tejada slammed the first one to left with one out, while Lee slugged his to center with two away for the 3-1 lead.

But Milwaukee countered with power of its own in the top of the fourth, as Branyan and Cameron led off the frame with back-to-back homers. Kendall followed with a double to left, though Backe managed to retire the next two batters.

Hart, though, hit the Brewers' third homer of the inning by blasting a high slider to left-center field. Milwaukee added to its 5-3 lead in the fifth with another home run. Cameron worked a two-out walk off Tim Byrdak, and this time Kendall slugged one out of the park, to left field.

It was Kendall's first homer of the season, and first since August 15, 2007 when he was with the Chicago Cubs.

But the Brewers couldn't hold on to the 7-3 lead, as the Astros came right back in the home sixth with a three-run inning.

Lance Berkman was hit by a pitch to start and motored around third to score on a Lee double -- though Lee was thrown out on the play, as he tried to go third while the throw from the outfield went home. Instead, the throw was cut off along the third-base line, and Lee couldn't turn around in time to make it back to second before the ball.

Nevertheless, Wigginton got the Astros going again with a solo homer to right, and consecutive doubles from Reggie Abercrombie and Ausmus got one more run home, and Houston within 7-6.

In the top of the seventh, a series of plays involving first base umpire Angel Campos led to the ejection of both Ausmus and Houston manager Cecil Cooper.

It started with Cameron up with two outs facing a 2-2 count. Cameron checked his swing on Sampson's pitch, and Ausmus appealed to Campos. The umpire ruled that Cameron did not go all the way around, resulting in an irate Ausmus, who started to walk down the first base line. Campos tossed the catcher from the game as Cooper emerged from the dugout with a calm demeanor, and backup catcher Humberto Quintero entered for Ausmus.

Cameron eventually walked, and Sampson made a close pickoff throw to Berkman. Several replays appeared to be inconclusive, as Berkman's glove and Cameron's hand arrived at nearly the same time.

But as soon as Campos called Cameron safe, Berkman became incensed and jumped in the air, and Cooper once again emerged from the dugout, only to get thrown out as he threw his hat to the ground. It was Cooper's fourth ejection of the season, and the second from Campos.

"I guess my hat must have hit him," Cooper said.
