Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Dustin McGowan tossed a complete game gem, as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Seattle Mariners 3-1, in the middle contest of a three-game set at the Rogers Centre.

McGowan (5-4) was superb, surrendering only a fifth-inning solo home run to Jeremy Reed, on five hits and two walks. The right-hander struck out seven for Toronto, which has won two of its last three.

"He was going to go back out there," Jays manager John Gibbons remarked of McGowan. "He was strong. We weren't going to give him a chance to lose it, but it didn't come to that."

Brad Wilkerson and Vernon Wells blasted identical home runs over the center- field wall while Scott Rolen drove in the club's third run.

Carlos Silva (3-7) pitched well as the starter, allowing three runs on nine hits over seven innings for Seattle, which has dropped three of its last four and seven of nine overall.

Reed provided the lone run for the Mariners with his four-bagger and Raul Ibanez doubled, providing the club's only other extra-base hit.

"With the pitches coming in the way they did today, nobody can hit," Seattle second baseman Jose Lopez said of McGowan. "He mastered it today."

Toronto picked up the game's first run leading off the second inning. Wells drove a Silva fastball to straight-away center for his seventh home run of the season.

Reed tied the game with his second home run of the season, leading off the fifth.

Wilkerson gave the Jays back their one-run lead in the home half, driving a one-out offering from Silva over the center field wall.

The Jays added an insurance run in the seventh. Matt Stairs stroked a one-out double to right and scored on a Rolen single to right.
