National League Game Summary - Philadelphia at Florida

Final Score: Philadelphia 4 - Florida 5

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Jorge Cantu hit a two-run home run, doubled, and scored twice, and Brett Myers continued to be a huge disappointment as the Florida Marlins held on to edge the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-4, in the opener of a three-game set between the top two teams in the National League East.

Hanley Ramirez and Mike Jacobs also homered for the Marlins, who scored all of their runs through the long ball, all courtesy of Myers. Ricky Nolasco (6-4) held the Phillies to three unearned runs on four hits in six innings, striking out three and walking one. The Marlins have won three of four, and pulled to within three games of first-place Philadelphia.

Myers (3-8), who took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his last start before losing, was ripped for five runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking four and fanning five. Philadelphia's Opening Day starter, he is responsible for eight of the club's 27 losses this season.

Jimmy Rollins and Pat Burrell homered for Philadelphia, which saw its four- game win streak come to an end.

As often has been the case with Myers this season, the Marlins got to a quick start in the first. Ramirez blasted a drive into the stands in left-center for a quick 1-0 lead. Myers then walked Jeremy Hermida, setting up Cantu's long home run down the line in left. Before recording an out, Myers and the Phils trailed 3-0.

"The (Phillies have) a very, very good lineup," said Nolasco. "You really got to go pitch-by-pitch and try not to make any mistakes because these guys will make you pay. We have a great offense. We're going to put up runs, so to come out and get three real quick, that does make it (possible) to challenge guys a lot more and go after these guys."

A Ramirez error allowed the Phillies to get back in the game, when the shortstop overthrew first on a Myers grounder with two outs in the fifth. Rollins made him pay for the mistake, ripping his fifth homer of the season to right, and the Phillies cut the deficit to 3-2.

Myers promptly returned the favor in the home half. Cantu smoked a line drive to left for a double, and Myers followed that by feeding another fastball middle-in to a Marlins hitter, this time Jacobs, who obliged by slamming a long ball down the line in right for a 5-2 Florida edge.

"I didn't help us after we scored those two runs to go out and have a shutdown inning," Myers said. "I kind of take full blame for that. You go out there and have momentum and then I go out there and give up the two runs we just got back and it pretty much lets the air out of your sails."

The Phillies made it interesting, pulling to within one run after a two-out Greg Dobbs RBI single in the sixth and Burrell's solo shot to left, also with two outs, in the eighth.

Kevin Gregg came in after a walk to Geoff Jenkins following Burrell's homer, and fanned Dobbs to get out of the threat. The Marlins closer surrendered a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Jayson Werth in the ninth, and Carlos Ruiz bunted Werth over to second. Gregg got Rollins to fly out and Shane Victorino to ground out, however, to seal the win and pick up his 12th save of the season.
