Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Aubrey Huff went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI as Baltimore used a late surge to slam Boston, 10-6, in the opener of a three- game series from Fenway Park.
Brian Roberts, Ramon Hernandez and Freddie Bynum also drove in two runs for the Orioles, who have won four of their last five. Former Red Sox Kevin Millar and Jay Payton also knocked in a run each.
Dennis Sarfate (4-1) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Starter Daniel Cabrera was charged with seven hits and six runs over five frames with four walks.
"Sarfate came in and shut it down," said Orioles manager Dave Trembley. "He had to put zeros on the board and then you've got to match up situationally late in the game. And after you score, you have to put a zero up and that turns it around."
J.D. Drew and Manny Ramirez homered for the Red Sox, who lost for only the third time in their last 11 games. Dustin Pedroia added two hits and scored twice while Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis added an RBI apiece in defeat.
Hideki Okajima (1-2) suffered a loss and a blown save for the second time in four appearances, yielding three runs in only one-third of an inning. It spoiled a solid effort by Josh Beckett, who pitched well enough to win despite allowing eight hits and four runs over six innings.
Following Beckett, Okajima failed to hold a lead as he allowed a two- run single with one out in the seventh to Huff which tied the game, 6-6. Manny Delcarmen entered only to allow a sacrifice fly to Millar which put the Orioles ahead.
"He was up with a lot of pitches and behind in the count," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona of his normally-reliable set-up man. "He made some real good pitches to start the inning to Bynum and then he walked Roberts and then he had to start getting a little more careful, got another walk, and Huff got a ball up and hit it real well. Those are the runs."
Then, with Craig Hansen on the hill in the ninth, Nick Markakis singled, and Melvin Mora reached when Pedroia's throw to second on a force play was off the mark. Huff then singled and Pedroia's throw home to get Markakis at the plate on a Payton grounder was late, making it a two-run edge for Baltimore.
Hernandez followed with a line single up the middle to score two more before Adam Jones hit into an inning-ending double play.
"When you're playing on the road, and you're playing in this place, you're never going to score enough runs," noted Trembley. "So, when you get scoring opportunities, especially guys on base with less than two outs, you've got to cash it in."
Orioles closer George Sherrill finished up the contest by retiring the side in order in the home half.
The Sox loaded the bases in their first at-bat, but Ramirez grounded into a double play which scored a run.
Baltimore countered in the second, as back-to-back two-run doubles by Bynum and Roberts off the wall in left staked the O's to a 4-1 edge.
Boston had the sacks full once more in the home third, and picked up a pair of runs as Lowell and Youkilis grounded into consecutive run-scoring fielder's choices.
Pedroia was hit by a pitch to start the fifth and scored when Drew launched a two-run homer. Ramirez followed with a solo blast over the Green Monster and the Sox were up 6-4.
For Ramirez, it was his 505th career homer, moving ahead of Eddie Murray for 23rd on the all-time list.
