National League Game Summary - Arizona at New York

Final Score: Arizona 9 - NY Mets 5

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Chris Snyder's solo home run in the top of the eighth inning gave Arizona the lead for good, as the Diamondbacks rallied to down the New York Mets, 9-5, in the opener of a three-game series at Shea Stadium.

Arizona starter Micah Owings went 4 1/3 innings and allowed five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits while striking out two and walking three. Chad Qualls (1-5) tossed a scoreless seventh to pick up the win.

Orlando Hudson and Stephen Drew each belted two-run homers for the Diamondbacks, who snapped a two-game slide. Conor Jackson hit a solo homer and added an RBI single.

New York starter John Maine lasted five innings and yielded three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Joe Smith (0-1) gave up the home run to Snyder and was saddled with the loss.

David Wright clubbed a two-run homer for New York, which has dropped a season- high-tying five in a row. Carlos Beltran, Luis Castillo and Jose Reyes each had two hits, while Moises Alou knocked in two runs.

The game was delayed 61 minutes before the start of the seventh inning due to heavy rain.

With one gone in the eighth, Snyder drilled an 0-2 slider into the vacant seats in left field to give Arizona a 6-5 lead.

The D-Backs then broke the game open with three runs in the ninth. Duaner Sanchez started the inning and gave up a leadoff double to Alex Romero. After Chris Young grounded out, Drew followed with a shot to right field. Jackson's solo blast with two away made it a 9-5 game.

After falling behind in the top of the first on Jackson's RBI single, the Mets put up a three-spot in the bottom half. Reyes led off with a well-placed infield single, but was caught stealing. A walk to Castillo and a two-out single by Beltran put runners on the corners. Carlos Delgado then stroked a run-scoring single to right-center field. Justin Upton bobbled the ball, allowing Delgado to take the extra base.

Activated before the game from the 15-day disabled list, Alou then drove in a pair with a single that fell in front of left fielder Jeff Salazar.

Wright's 12th home run of the season gave New York a 5-1 lead in the second. After Castillo's single kept the inning alive, Wright crushed a 1-1 slider deep into the seats in left field.

The Diamondbacks cut the deficit to 5-3 on Hudson's blast with two gone in the fifth. Owings singled to open the frame and came around to score on Hudson's shot to right field.

Arizona evened the score in the sixth. Claudio Vargas relieved Maine, issued a leadoff walk to Mark Reynolds and drilled Upton on the hand. After Salazar grounded out, pinch-hitter Augie Ojeda ripped a two-out, two-run single past a lunging Delgado to tie the game at five.
