Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Dioner Navarro went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, four RBI and three runs scored as the Tampa Bay Rays crushed the LA Angels of Anaheim, 13-4, in the opener of a three-game set at Angel Stadium.
Evan Longoria hit two solo homers, scored four times and drove in three runs while Willy Aybar also had a solo home run, scored twice and drove in two for the Rays, who have won three of their last four games. Edwin Jackson (4-5) got the win as he gave up four runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work.
"What a homecoming for me," said Longoria, who is from the Los Angeles area. "My friends and family are here. It was a big win for us against a hot team. The clubhouse is loose and we're having fun."
Torii Hunter hit a two-run home run while Vladimir Guerrero went 4-for-4 with two runs scored for the Angels, who have dropped two straight on the heels of a seven-game winning streak. Joe Saunders (9-3) was banged up for eight runs on nine hits in just 4 2/3 innings of action.
Trailing by a run in the fifth, the Rays took the lead in the frame with a big inning.
B.J. Upton drove in the first run of the frame with a two-out double to left that scored Carl Crawford. After Longoria drew a walk, Aybar singled to center to plate Upton and Navarro then punched a double to right-center that brought home Longoria and Aybar.
After Jose Arredondo took the mound, Gabe Gross roped a single to bring home Navarro for an 8-4 lead.
Tampa Bay padded its lead in the seventh. With Darren O'Day on the mound, Crawford led off with a single, stole second and later came home on a double from Longoria. After Aybar grounded out, Navarro belted a single to plate Longoria for a 10-4 lead.
The Rays tacked on another run in the eighth courtesy of an error to O'Day that allowed Jason Bartlett, who led off the frame with a single, to cross the plate to make it an 11-4 game.
Longoria led off the ninth inning with a solo shot over the left field fence while Bartlett later hit an RBI single to cap the scoring in the game.
The Rays used the long ball in the second inning to grab the lead, and they did it three straight times. Longoria started the frame with a blast over the left field wall and Aybar followed with a shot to left. Not to be outdone, Navarro then smacked a pitch into the left field stands for a 3-0 lead.
The Angels got on the board in the bottom of the second as Guerrero led off with a double and later came home on a single from Gary Matthews.
Anaheim cut its deficit to 3-2 in the third as Garret Anderson's sacrifice fly plated Jeff Mathis.
LA then took the lead in the fourth inning as Guerrero punched a single to center to start the frame and Hunter then belted a pitch over the left-center wall for a 4-3 advantage.
