Boston, MA (Sports Network) - J.D. Drew finished 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored as Boston slammed Seattle, 11-3, in the middle contest of a three-game weekend set at Fenway Park.
"We have a pretty good three hitter," Sox manager Terry Francona said of Drew. "I think it's fortunate for us that he's started to really heat up right when David (Ortiz) went down. That's a tough hole to fill if you don't have somebody hitting in that spot."
Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis drove in two runs apiece for the Red Sox, who rebounded from Friday's 8-0 loss to record their seventh win in the last nine games.
Manny Ramirez, back from a one-game rest for an injury suffered on Thursday, hit a two-run home run, scored twice and drew three walks. Alex Cora and Coco Crisp knocked in a run each for Boston, which has won 14 of its last 15 home contests.
Tim Wakefield (4-4) notched the win for the Sox, yielding five hits and two runs over seven innings, fanning six.
"I felt confident going into the game and when I left the bullpen, I felt like I had good stuff," Wakefield said. "With the early homer by Manny, it made it a little bit easier for us and obviously our offense exploded there. It's nice to pitch on days like that."
Raul Ibanez drove in two and Miguel Cairo one for the Mariners, losers in five of their last six. Seattle fell to 22-40 this season, the worst mark in the majors.
Miguel Batista (3-7) dropped his third consecutive decision, charged with six hits and five runs -- four earned -- with six walks over 4 1/3 frames.
Behind by only two runs, Batista loaded the bases with one out in the fifth on walks to Ramirez and Brandon Moss and a single by Sean Casey. R.A. Dickey, the Mariners' knuckleballer, came in to get Kevin Cash to fly out. Kenji Johjima's passed ball with Cora at the plate got to the backstop and allowed Ramirez to score for a 5-2 Red Sox lead.
Drew's solo shot to dead center made it a four-run game in the sixth. Drew was at it again with RBI single in the eighth, and back-to-back two-run doubles from Lowell and Youkilis later in the frame pushed the edge to 11-2.
"The pitching got a little out of hand there towards the end," said Mariners manager John McLaren. "We centered too many balls and Wakefield's tough on us. I don't know how else to put it."
Craig Hansen pitched a scoreless eighth. Jonathan Papelbon worked the ninth but allowed Seattle's third and final run on Cairo's single, which plated Willie Bloomquist.
Boston picked up two runs with two outs in the first, as Drew tripled and Ramirez drilled a ball beyond the seats atop the Green Monster.
Seattle answered in the third, as Ibanez stroked a ground-rule double to right which scored two.
Moss drew a base on balls with one out in the fourth, then came around to score on Cora's double. Crisp followed with a single up the middle for a 4-2 game.
