American League Game Summary - Tampa Bay at Texas

Final Score: Tampa Bay 12 - Texas 4

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Scott Kazmir tossed eight brilliant frames and the Tampa Bay Rays scored nine runs in the last two innings to seal a 12-4 victory over the Texas Rangers, in the opener of a three-game set.

Kazmir (6-1) extended his unbeaten streak to six games, allowing just two runs on six hits without a walk. He fanned six in the gem, helping Tampa snap a three-game losing streak.

"It was nice to go deep into the game," Kazmir said. "For the most part, everything was working. Evan's (Longoria) home run was a mammoth one."

Evan Longoria, B.J. Upton, Dioner Navarro and Eric Hinske all homered for the Rays, who pounded out 12 runs on 13 hits.

Vicente Padilla (7-3) pitched an effective six innings, surrendering three runs on five hits and two walks, retiring 12 of the first 13 batters he faced. The hard-luck loser dropped a decision for the first time since April 22.

Ian Kinsler homered and Marlon Byrd doubled with two RBI for Texas, which has dropped two of its last three.

"We started well but got to where we couldn't stop them," Texas manager Ron Washington said. "I kept guys in too long but I didn't want to waste any of our late relievers."

Tampa snapped a 1-1 deadlock in the top of the sixth. Upton smacked a two-out homer to right-center and Cliff Floyd followed with a walk. Floyd moved to second on a wild pitch before Longoria moved him to third with an infield single. Padilla's second wild pitch of the inning brought in Floyd from third, giving Tampa a 3-1 lead.

Tampa broke open an otherwise close game off Robinson Tejeda in the eighth. Upton walked to start the inning and stole both second and third before Longoria worked a one-out walk. Hinske followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Upton, and Navarro blasted a homer to right, making it a 6-1 advantage.

Ian Kinsler drilled a two-out homer to left in the home half to get one back for Texas.

The Rays added some insurance and then some in the ninth, batting around for six runs off Kameron Loe. Akinori Iwamura reached on an error and scored on a Carl Crawford triple. Upton then reached on another error, allowing Crawford to score. Hinske then blasted a two-out, two-run homer to right.

Navarro followed with a single and Gabe Gross doubled before Jason Bartlett singled to right, scoring Navarro and capping the rally.

Texas added two runs in the ninth off Al Reyes. Milton Bradley walked, moved to second on a David Murphy single and scored on a Byrd double to left. Murphy then scored on a groundout from Gerald Laird.

Texas got on the board in the second inning. Bradley lined a double to right leading off, moved to third on a Murphy single and scored on a Byrd sacrifice fly.

Longoria led off the Rays' fifth with a monster home run to left, tying the score at 1-1.
